mid march madness

Its far too late to be up typing, but I am.

I thought it only fair to touch base briefly about whats gone on lately.

Had a grand time a week or two ago on a thursday night, rocking out to Radge as he destroyed Wamp Wamp, as well as earlier over at Inhale, hearing some great music from Dazed, Lazy and especially Mad Cow. It had been quite some time since I had enjoyed seeing (and dancing) to DJ's this much, and has definately been a spark that has got me thinking more about DJing, electronic music and general fun again. This was aided 2 nights later. Shak and I had gone out to see the Raiders hand a gift of a game to a very lacklustre Sea Eagles, and following that went for a beer at the Clare. Ology's hip hop night was on, and it was the radness. Two very enjoyable sets, one from Ology, the other from one of the dudes from the Bingethinkers, and I had copped a weekend of DJing delights, probably for the first time in a year or two.

Got a brief but fun Young And Restless dose last Thursday, with them being on MTV's The Lair, and us being on the guestlist. graceless_me and I rocked out to their two songs, as well as checking the other bands playing showcase things to a Metro lobby packed with kids plied on all you can drink alcohol... The Answer were one of those kinda darkness, kinda acdc, kinda wolfmother kinda bands that, well, did their thing, loudly and proudly. The Matches were surprisingly decent for a pop punk band (i think they may be a little more underground than that, but lets just say they are at the top of their genre), and Mystro was really quite dope. He played two tracks off his Australian collab album, which looks really interesting...

From there, grace and i walked quite a long way the wrong way, and eventually we parted. I joined Chris, and we went and laughed at the lack of people that had turned out to get a PS3 at launch. We then played it up in Myer till way too late, not actually buying one, but getting splashed all over the news (because there were so few actual customers, the media organisations had to take what they could get). It was quite nice, but its not worth $1000. Or more likely, its not worth 2 1/2 wii's.

On Friday night I had a lovely time with Nonny and Lucy, who I accidently met at the Landsdowne. I was there to see Nunchukka Superfly, who were typically excellent, but stayed for the manic and wonderful Guns Are For Kids and the drunken fun of Between The Devil And The Deep, who really really were.

Saturday involved going and seeing Bec Paton play at the bizzare Diversity day night extravaganza at the Roxbury, and then heading out to the wonderful Chan 3.14 warehouse party. It was in a monsterous venue this time. Many of the stages did us well - from seeing The Caca, Fuji Collective and Hobgoblin Syndicate (so young, so dope!), all at the live stage, to the Bodega where some dude spinning wonderful old carribean records from like the 50's calmed us down and Some Freak finishing us off as only he can, to Eli melting most of our hearts with his dubbbbsttteeepppp and grime, and a million other snippets of crazy warehouse party shennanigans. This time there was no police brutality, and this time we left by our own devices, happy and complete. A massive shame Max and Jiah diddnt make the trek out to join our crew, but massive r0x to Bec, Nick, Riley, Katie A, Typo, Raddy, Morgan and all the other cool kids that made my night so good.

Ive been doing some housekeeping stuff... I still have pending reviews for Cyclic Defrost - Love of Diagrams and Amon Tobin, that I will submit as soon as I have a chance. Have the chance? You know what I mean. You can (and I would love you to give me some feedback) check the ones ive done so far by going to http://www.cyclicdefrost.com/blog/?author=61, but more importantly, once you have read mine, check out the rest of the site - its an amazing institution that I feel very honoured to be allowed to contribute to.

Ive just sent off two interviews for BMA down in Canberra, one with My Disco, and the other with That One Guy. Both of them were interesting, the That One Guy one had all the bravado i would expect - he was elloquent, humerous, geeky but cool, and just as I got to asking him about his new cd, lightning in the Texan desert he was travelling through struck within 10 feet of his car, and we lost reception - he called me back no worries, and described it as "really heavy". It was up there with Thomas from Stike Anywhere and Sara from Tegan & Sara as one of the most fun interviews ive ever done, and it was sadly a massive hack job editing it down for the mag... still, good times. And I just got a bunch o cds to review for them as well - Luke Fairs Balance, Mystro, Wicked Beat Soundsystem, the new Yoko Ono thing, Regular Johns EP, Spoonbills album, some hellraiser trance thing??, and the Vasco eras album... so a nice bunch, part from the powertrance.

Ive been trying to keep on top of all you bloggers out there too - so ive added some new syndications to LJ if anyones interested...

linesax2 - the artist formally known as linesax, who has moved to be the mistress of her own domain
wynter_place is the new chronicals of Garth and Anna
somefreakish is Some Freak, aka Si's blog, and its a really damn good read - he went to the Red Bull Music Academy, and writes well about music and stuff...

modifyer is the badly spelt sydnicate name for the modyfier blog, a wonderful blog from a girl that talks about music the same way Bec does...
