On a whim I bought the latest Entertainment Weekly, a magazine I stopped reading years ago because I was tired of other people telling me what to think. I mean, I have that in Real Life and entertainment is where I draw the line. Anyway, I picked it up because it was a Star Trek issue. It had Quinto and Pine on the cover and promised exclusive!stuff. Of course, I'd not only seen the photos before, I'd shown them to my mom. But, ever the fangirl, I bought the issue because I wanted to have the pictures (and the article that went with them) in print.
I haven't been this pressed about a movie since the first X-Men film. Those were the days! I remember stumbling upon Wizard, buying issue after issue for the pictures until finally I started reading it for its own sake. A few years later, my subscription has expired and I don't really care. *shrug* Still a Comic Fangirl though.
You could say I had this level of crazy for Supernatural, but I mostly stick to fandom (i.e. fanfic and macros). I do have a few issues of the Supernatural Magazine, but that was at the beginning and I've calmed down now. But with Star Trek, I think it's the level of secrecy that is involved in the production. It doesn't help that the release was pushed back several months either. The first full trailer hasn't even come out yet for Whedon's sake! And I want to know everything! This being a prequel, I'm hoping to get more details on things we've only glimpsed or relied on the expanded universe of books and comics to flesh out. The Original Series threw us into the middle of the Mission and it's becool to see how that all started.
I'm a moderate Trekker. I'm a fan of 3/5 of the shows, though I plan on watching them all in sequence. I have Star Trek!Barbie. I'd like to own a phaser and a communicator. I've contemplated fanfiction. I'm willing to get a poster. Might check out the books and comics. Would be willing to get a convention under my belt. Love to discuss the Trekverse with my mom. Thus, being a moderate Trekker, I'm not up in arms about the reboot. It's expected. The old sets, as much as I love 'em, were kind of blah. We have better materials and designs now and I look forward to seeing new images of the future. And short of cloning, I don't see how we can get actors who are just like the originals, so I'm ok with some differences. From the few pics I've seen of the cast, it's not hard to look at them and think of the Enterprise crew.
All in all, I'm a hopeful fan. I won't knock it 'til I try it. Blah blah blah Vulcancakes.
