No real update so here is the cookie sample I arranged!
Reds
“How are you?” She inquires, placing the cup back on its coaster.
“Fine.” He leans back in his chair, observing her.
The silence hangs between them until she says sarcastically, “I’m fine too, thanks for asking.” Rolling her eyes, she adds, “I’m starting to think you don’t care about me, Brick.”
He raises an eyebrow. “What makes you think that I do?”
She makes a face and he gives her his ‘don’t be annoying’ look. He thinks it says something about his endurance that he’s been able to tolerate her trivial crap for so long. Her hands are busy fussing with her long hair as she gathers it into a bun to tie it in place. He notes that it makes her face look angular and severe. She’s lost weight, he thinks and wonders why he isn’t surprised by this information.
“Are you still working for that company?”
For some reason, the question catches him off-guard. He draws a blank and some of it must have translated on his face because she gives him an odd look. “You know, that job you and your brothers have had for years?”
“Don’t patronize me.” He snaps. “I know where I work.”
“It’s just a question.” She bristles. “There’s no need to bite my head off for it.”
“There’s no need for you to pry into my business either. Don’t you know curiosity’s a killer?”
“Oh, like you?”
Blueprint for Bridge Building
Heaving a sigh, she turned back to the classified section in the newspaper. Money was starting to run low and she had bills to pay, food to buy, and a really nice outfit that had her name written all over it. But all of that was put on hold until she found work. Surely there was a job out there for someone with her expertise?
Jinx viciously stomped out the voice in her head that reasoned that no one would hire a villain. Ex-villain, Jinx corrected, At least, for the time being.
The door opened with a jingle and a gust of wind blew in.
Jinx looked up and saw a group of people trying to get through the tight opening of the diner. Normally she wouldn’t have care, but it was chilly and she didn’t bring her jacket due to the local (and apparently unreliable) weatherman. She narrowed her eyes. Hurry up and close the door, I’m getting frostbite over here! She was too busy glaring to realize that her powers were responding to her irritation and had started to coat the door-frame. Just as the door was going to abruptly slam shut and break the woman’s hand, a familiar voice pierced through her thoughts and her powers quickly retreated.
“Excuse me, but can you all move in faster? You’re letting in the cold air.”
Conversation hushed as everyone turned to see one of the newest additions of superheroes in Jump City. “O-Oh, of course. Sorry.” The woman immediately squeezed in and closed the door behind her.
“Thanks.” He flashed a bright smile before turning around.
Jinx quickly held the paper up to block her face and prayed for a miracle.
The feeling of being watched persisted.
She slowly lowered the paper until she could see just over the top of the pages. Out-of-control red hair. Unbelievably blue eyes. Stupid half-smile.
Darn.
She smacked the paper down on the table and glared at him. “I don’t remember saying you could sit there.”
“Good to see you too, Jinx.” He replied easily.
These are more substantial than the last ones I posted so hopefully they reflect the progress I've been making. Now if only I could find the time to finish these suckers :/
