Yesterday was a welcome change of scenery and circumstance. Went on a Boy Scout camping trip for the first time in ... a couple of years, now? In my personal experience, Scouts have not tended to stick around for very long after reaching Eagle rank, 18 or not. I'm mildly proud of myself for warping the pattern a little.
The trip consisted of an overnighter at a "sand pit" in town with the junior scouts (the others are down in Florida). In the morning, we hiked northeast towards the town Sportsman's Club (gingerly navigating around the back of theshooting range) and in the afternoon, traced train tracks which lead in nearly the opposite direction. The food was filling (sloppy joes for lunch, tacos for dinner, french toast and sausage for breakfast) and the kids were incredibly entertaining. I have absolutely no idea where they find the energy.
My only real complaints were the cloudy sky and the mosquitoes. I think we can all agree on the mosquitoes, right? :)
