I HAVE JUST HAD A BRILLIANT IDEA.

Jul 27, 2009 14:21

So Tortall and Camelot are totally neighboring kingdoms, y/y?

ETA: unlocking this because it requires fiercynn's attention.

ETA2: this thread/idea is officially open for as much input as anyone wants to throw in. Brainstorming party ahoy!

THIS IS SO HAPPENING. Nevermind my inability to stick to one project at a time.

Yes, I am home!

Okay, so I was thinking a little more about Raoul/Gwen, and though I'm not sure it should actually happen as a pairing (theirloveissoawkward!) they could totally hang out and be friends, right? Especially if the Tortall delegation comes to visit Camelot and Raoul's all D: over the fact that Gary and Jonathan and even Alan are hanging out with Camelot nobles, so he's hiding in a corner and Gwen comes to be nice to him. And also hide. y/n?

also, can Morgana flirt with Alanna too? Except not in a Delia-of-Eldorne kind of way? I really need to get that comparison out of my head.

OR. I JUST HAD AN IDEA. What if Gwen finds out about Alanna? Because, idk, she has experience with dressing Morgana up as a boy to sneak around town and can recognize that? And then she and Alanna obviously wouldn't hang out that much, but they could at least have some bonding over that and Gwen could give her tips. And fix her armor. OR, SOMETHING.

YES YES YES. Does she figure out that Alanna and Jonathan are actually sleeping together, too?

And OMG Morganan totally flirts with Alanna and makes her super uncomfortable. Hee!

Also, see above re: Kitten and below re: Numair vs. Uther

Merlin and Arthur should totally battle some stormwings, btw.

Huh, for some reason I was thinking of this as pre-Tusaine war, but actually it makes so much more sense after, so...yes! Should she tell Morgana? Because then they could all be friends, and Morgana could still flirt with Alanna and make her uncomfortable and Gwen jealous. Hee.

KITTEN! omg, does this mean we can include Tkaa? PLEASE SAY YES. Actually, I'd kind of want him to meet Slash Dragon too.

yeeeeeees. Except now I'm picturing the terrible/amazing Merlin CGI, and Arthur doing his swishy sword thing just before plunging it dramatically into the air right next to the Stormwings. Oh, Merlin.

Although would they be upset about Morgana potentially marrying someone who was already involved with someone else? Or I suppose it could just end up with that set-up we were discussing, except with Alanna as Merlin and Gwen as Lancelot (and oh my god, did I really just type that sentence? Ow, my brain.)

Tkaa, YES. I want Tkaa-Merlin interaction. Or possibly Tkaa very calmly kicking Uther's ass.

Except, okay, timeline. How many years later are the Daine books, and where are we putting Camelot at that time?

P.S. This may be obvious, but it just occured to me: Gwen and Raul get along so well because clearly Gwen is the Buri to Morgana's Thayet. Am I right?

Yes, yes you did. Except, ow my brain also because which set-up we were discussing? Confused!

Weeeell, assuming Prince Roald is born fairly soon after Jonathan and Thayet get married, Wild Magic is about...ten years after Lioness Rampant? I'm sure there's some Tortall wiki that has an actual answer. Anyway that would put Arthur and Merlin at around 30-ish when Tkaa comes to Tortall - or, really, when any of the Immortals start roaming outside the Realms. As anachronistic as Merlin is, it may not be so problematic to have Uther still around, I guess.

Hee! Yes! These are starting to sound like SAT answers. In a REALLY AWESOME SAT, that is.

The easy explanation Arthur-Gwen marriage Arthur/Merlin Gwen/Lancelot setup.

Hmm. So we can pretty much chose whether we want Uther to be around or not, I guess. It strikes me that it might be more fun to play with the immortals under Uther's reign, but...I dunno. There definitely should be some ruling!Arthur parts as well.

Muahaha, really awesome SAT. That should be the title of this fic (not really).

And oh, no, now I'm going to spend all day on the TP Wiki. Why did you suggest that?

So meaning Alanna: Jon as Merlin: Arthur, and Gwen: Morgana as Lancelot: Gwen? Ohhh. But wait, are we having Jon actually marry Morgana? I thought the arrangement was going to fall through, for whatever reason. Sorry, still confused.

Yeah, I don't know. The immortals could be the first big magical obstacle during Arthur's reign, maybe. That might even get some semblance of plot in here somewhere. What a foreign idea!

Clearly, "Really Awesome SAT" can be the title of the modern high school crack AU that will inevitably come out of this crossover.

...as if we don't have enough of those. Oh GOD, why are we so incredibly INSANE?

Oh my god, I can't believe you're using SAT comparison punctuation. And yes, that's the comparison I meant. I was just saying, if Gwen found out that Jon was with Alanna, would she be happy because that meant (for the prospective marriage) that the above situation could happen, or upset because she doesn't want Morgana to have to marry someone who is in love with someone else? Regardless of the fact that it won't actually work out. (Although can you imagine the AU where it did? Oh god, stop me.)

Yes, Really Awesome SAT probably is the AU where Tortall and Camelot are rival high schools. There are probably marching bands. Or possibly a spelling bee.

NEW TOPIC NOW.

...Merlin really doesn't have enough supporting characters for a marching band AU, damn.

OH MY GOD THE TP WIKI IS AMAZING. Apparently she's said lots of stuff about her characters that isn't actually in the book, just on internet message boards and stuff. Like the fact that OWEN MARRIED LORD WYLDON'S YOUNGEST DAUGHTER, OH MY GOD.

Seriously, I should not get so excited about this, but...I don't really care.

...and I just glanced at this thread and thought Owen Harper instead of Owen of Jesslaw and now I've broken my brain completely.

k, gonna stop spamming this comment thread now.

Owen married Wyldon's daughter??!!!!! I think I just had the same over-excited reaction as you. What would I give to see THAT scene... "Father, I have some news! But first, why don't you hand me that sword and sit down." But then, I always thought Wyldon was a big softy deep down (and that he was fond of Owen. Frankly, who wouldn't be?)

I KNOW RIGHT? I should not be this excited about fictional characters, but I SO AM.
