ode to a new love, by an older woman

Jun 07, 2013 10:05

I love you.
It took me a long time to even touch you, when you were there in the store. I avoided all rows of eyes back then. I said I'd never need you, like other women needed their late-life loves.
Eventually I took you home.
You'd touch my face, and it was new.
I needed you more and more:
-curled up on the couch with a book;
-driving, confused where we were headed, but with you in the seat next to me;
-emailing, both silly things, and more serious;
-in bed.
Now I can't function without you.
I see the world in new focus.
I love you, reading glasses.
