David put his beer down on the table and looked over at Nikki. They were the only two out tonight and David planned to use this in his favor.
“Nikki, there’s something I need to tell you.”
“Shoot.”
“I want you to know that - ” David paused, shaking his head. “No, I figured it was time that I - ” David stopped again, lip curling slightly at the end.
“What’s up Big Guy?” Nikki asked, eyes narrowing in confusion. David frowned, starting over.
“I was just going to tell you about my feelings for…” David put his head in his hands. “I sound like I’m in middle school!”
Nikki tilted her head at him before a look of understanding crossed her features. “David, it’s okay, no biggie.”
David looked up. “Really?” He said, relaxing in relief. “I wasn’t sure how you’d react, what with the two of us working together and such.”
Nikki smiled, reaching across the table and patting David’s hand. “I understand. Remember that guy I told you I used to date?”
The guy she used to date? The only guy that Nikki ever told David about was the one who now dated guys.
“Colby’s lucky,” Nikki continued, not noticing the look of confusion that David was now sporting. “The bond you two have…”
Colby? Nikki didn’t think that he….? That Colby…? That they…?
“It doesn’t come around often.”
“Nikki...”
“The way you two look at each other.”
“Nikki!” David shouted, making her jump slightly. “Colby and I aren’t -”
“It’s okay David.”
“Nikki, there’s nothing going on between me and Colby.”
“David, just admit it and move on.”
“Nikki!” David replied shaking his head. He was going to get a headache; he could feel it. “I’m trying to tell you that I like you, not that I’m gay!”

They had been tracking this guy all night, room after room, level after level. If they didn’t make any moves soon, David was just about ready to give up.
“Come on David, hurry up will ya? He’s on the move again!” David sighed, glancing down at Nikki, already ahead of him, hot on the heels of their criminal suspect.
Don and Colby were outside in the surveillance van overlooking the third story nightclub, and Liz was on the floor beneath them waiting for Don’s cue. Speeding up, David was able to reach Nikki right before the suspect turned around and looked their way.
Grabbing his arm, Nikki laughed at a joke David didn’t say, and pushed him over to the bar in the hopes that they weren’t recognized or caught.
Their attempts were futile however, when said bad guy came over and took the seat next to Nikki, turning his stool so that he faced them.
“It’s good to see a couple come to the club together every now and then.” The guy made a grand gesture with his hands, his words slurred - a result of all the alcohol he had consumed that night.
David almost laughed; did this guy really think that he and Nikki were in a relationship? He must be more wasted than David thought.
Although…
Don had told them to use any means necessary - within reason - to get close to this guy, and with him thinking that he and Nikki were hot and heavy behind closed doors, they were currently at an advantage.
Glancing down, David gave a slight smile to humor the creep, praying that Nikki would at least wait until after the guy was locked behind bars before murdering and tearing his body to shreds.
He leaned down and connected his lips to Nikki's.

David looked around the flat that he and Nikki were currently stuck in for their undercover assignment and sighed. They were pretending to be newlyweds, a Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan and Monica Young, and they would be in this apartment for a week.
Nikki was currently in the bedroom unpacking her things, which, to David’s quiet amusement, held more clothes than expected.
Seconds later, a loud crash from the bedroom sent David rushing in that direction.
“What happened in here?” he asked, walking into the room and looking at the suitcases that littered the floor.
“I tried to put these on the top shelf,” Nikki answered shrugging. “Needless to say I failed.”
“I’ll do it.”
“Nah, I got this.” Nikki replied moving back into the closet.
“Nonsense,” David said walking over to the closet behind Nikki. “If you try to put these back up there by yourself, the same thing’s going to happen again.”
“Sinclair, you’re not that much taller than me, I’ll be fine.” Nikki argued, turning around.
However, David was a lot closer than both of them realized, and suddenly he was staring into light brown eyes, lips just inches away from his.
Nikki gasped.
More than anything, David wanted to move the extra inch, give in, stop depriving himself of what, who, he secretly wanted, but he couldn’t.
What if Nikki's intake of breath was nothing more than her getting ready to step back and swing at him for coming so close? He’d worked so hard to hide his attraction for the past year and he couldn't afford to get this wrong, not now, not when they still had the pretense of a happy marriage to keep up.
Unwillingly, David stepped back.
He never saw the look of disappointment that crossed Nikki’s face before she turned around.
