ABOUT YOU: Your name: Avi (from Annavera) Your age: 22 Your location: Innsbruck/Austria, but soon to move to Vienna/Austria :D Your occupation: Student - voice (training to become an opera singer) and musicology
YOUR INTERESTS AND FANDOMS: Current fandoms: Anything musical theatre (some of my favourites are Der Besuch der alten Dame, Rebecca, Elisabeth, Next to Normal, 3 Musketiere/Musketeers, anything Sondheim, etc etc!), Harry Potter, ASOIAF/Game of Thrones, Rebecca, Der Besuch der alten Dame (books in both cases... and the Rebecca mini series starring Charles dance and Diana Rigg), Casino Royale, Skyfall, Memoirs Of A Geisha, Downton Abbey, Gilmore Girls, and lots more I cannot think of right at this very moment. Characters you like, ships you sail etc. Narcissa Malfoy, Catelyn Stark, Claire Zachanassian, Mrs Danvers, Mameha, Vesper Lynd, Emily Gilmore | Narcissa/Lucius, Catelyn/Ned, Claire/Alfred, James/Vesper, Emily/Richard, Druella/Cygnus, pretty much any Black sisters combination... And I'm kind of starting to ship a form of Mrs Danvers/Rebecca which is still very much in its beginning phase xD. Other non-fannish interests: As I said, musical theatre, opera, theatre in general, singing. Lots of singing (my biggest passion and love ♥ ), more opera and more singing, writing, reading, dancing (ballet), shopping (shopaholic speaking!), meeting my friends... Did I mention opera and singing already?
Oh, it is still very much alive, haha! I'm a conservatory student (or will be starting in September, I used to study privately until now) and still nowhere near ready to enter the actual business, but I grew up with it (with my dad being a symphonic musician and my mum being a music journalist) and can say... It's... definitely crazy. Really tough because you have tons and tons of competition and everyone just gets younger @___@ and you have to deliver a 100% fantastic performance every time and everywhere you go because otherwise that could have consequences.
And voices are bitches (everything has an impact on them. EVERYTHING, it goes from what you ate to how you're feeling to how well and long you slept to probably also what you're intending to think lol), so... Oy. Singing is really, really hard work - it's high performance sport, really. Most opera singers who sing big parts usually lose about one kilo of their weight that evening.
From what I know and experienced in some way everything also feels like pretty much of a different world (which you start to get a sense of when studying already; as I said, I'm still very much at the beginning of everything and I find myself thinking 'Study music they said, it's gonna be fun they said...' quite a few times already xD) and everything is kind of insane because you have absolutely no regulated work schedule AT ALL. You need to be really, really flexible and one huge problem is that the contracts - when you're engaged at an opera house - only run for a year and then either get renewed (if you're lucky) or don't and you'll have to audition somewhere else, so it's rather difficult and totally insecure.
It's a super crazy business all in all and I've had plenty of singers look at me in a weird way asking me if I didn't want to learn anything decent when I told them I was studying voice, but honestly, it kind of sounds like heaven on earth to me. Crazily tough, but heaven. So I really, really hope I'll actually get the chance to work as an opera singer when I'm ready! I do have a Plan B though, which is Opera Dramaturgy. Therefore the Musicology!
I totally hope that any of this made sense right now - it's close to three am and I'm getting super tired, haha! Apologies if it doesn't, I just get rambly and excited when I can talk about anything related to singing or opera xD.
That sounds so fucking cool, seriously! I love that things like opera and ballet are still so big. At least some things haven't changed, haha. Have you travelled much for it? Is it like Phantom of the Opera? ;) I've never really seen much, but I've always loved the idea of it, I suppose. That's so cool that you do it!
I... definitely have traveled some to see different operas and/or singers, haha. But never really far, I think the furthest was only Vienna? I always plan to travel around for certain stuff, but unfortunately I hardly ever get to do it (even though I'm gonna go to Germany and Switzerland for two musical productions in the near future) - but every time I'm traveling anyway I try to go to the opera or at least visit it, in case it's closed!
And haha, I haven't seen any phantoms hiding within the opera houses yet, but there might be one in the catacombs of my conservatory :P. I'll keep you updated if I find out! ^^
It's definitely taking over a big, big part of my life - I grew up with it, I've always loved it (and cried my eyes out during every other performance tbh) and my adoration for it only grows more and more. ♥
Hi, I'm late to the party, but would love to get to know you better! I play the flute and do ballet dancing in my freetime. Browsing through your icons, I saw several of my fandoms featured (HP, GoT, Downton Abbey, James Bond) - would you like to be friends? ^^
Waaah, so sorry for the super late response - I've just recently moved to Vienna and everything is still a bit chaotic, haha. Sorry for missing your comment! Anyway, I'd love to be friends, adding you right now :D
