The drowsiness Changmin felt wasn’t new. He had been feeling especially tired after the TONE tour had kicked its start. The doctor said it was mostly because of the lack of sugar in his system, especially that Changmin was going on a sugar-restricted diet. He was advised to take a bar of chocolate in his pocket for whenever he felt dizzy.
Changmin stuffed his hand in his pocket only to groan upon realizing that he had no chocolate at all. He dropped on the couch and rubbed his face. Living without the other three and most especially Jaejoong was torturous. Jaejoong would never leave the fridge empty and he would never allow the house to be free of nutella or chocolate powder. How he and Yunho managed to survive without the others, he still didn’t know.
He sighed.
“What’s wrong?” Yunho asked, dropping on the couch beside his dongsaeng.
“I feel dizzy, that’s what’s wrong.” Changmin replied, dropping his head on Yunho’s thigh.
“Chocolate?”
“I don’t have any… We don’t have any.” He groaned. “This is ridiculous.”
Yunho hummed, running his fingers through Changmin’s hair, massaging his scalp. “What can I do for you?”
“Bring Jaejoong hyung here?” Changmin lifted his head, meeting Yunho’s eyes. The latter chuckled, smiling bitterly.
“Yeah, I wish I can do that, but sadly, I can’t.” He ruffled the younger man’s hair. “Anything else I can actually do?”
“I need nutella,” He sighed. “Seriously there should be something like the nutella fairy,” Changmin muttered. “This kind of shit should exist.”
“Again,” Yunho patted Changmin’s head. “I can’t do that either.”
Just when Changmin was about to let another sigh, he felt vibration under his head. “Your thigh is vibrating.”
Yunho chuckled. “It’s my phone,” He fished his phone from his pocket. “Oh, it’s Jaejoong.”
“Is he coming?”
“No, he wants me to come over.” With one last squeeze, Yunho hopped on his feet.
“Don’t bother coming back without Jaejoong’s food. I will lock you out.”
Yunho chuckled, “and you complain when fans pair you up with food.”
Changmin propped on his elbow, wincing when the pain in his head intensified. “Pairing me up with food is ridiculous. I eat food, not fuck it.”
“That’s not what I heard.”
Changmin’s eyes widened before turning to stare at Yunho’s. “How did you know?”
“The only person who knows?”
The taller boy dropped his head on the couch again and whined. “Fucking Yoochun, it was one time Goddamn it and I was drunk.”
“As I said, don’t complain about the MinFood.”
With that said, Yunho headed to his room to change before going out to meet his lover, leaving Changmin with a glass of water and aspirin to hopefully cure his headache.
Once the other was out, Changmin felt something on his shoulder, so he scratched that spot. He felt the same on his other shoulder. Huffing, he raised his head and blinked.
“Oh God, I’m hallucinating now?”
He felt a poke on his forehead.
“I will be fine, I will be fine.” He chanted to himself.
“Seriously now?”
Changmin’s head snapped up once again, confused eyes staring at the little creature staring at him. He gulped.
“I’m not a ghost, why do you look so scared?”
“This headache is worse than I think it is.” He dropped his head on the couch again.
“You need nutella?”
Changmin glanced up once again, eyes narrowing, studying the creature in front of him. Brown fluffy dress with a cute embroidery on the edges and brown matching wings with a white glitter on the edges as well. His eyes scanned the small face; pointy nose, big eyes, pink cheeks and brown hair pulled in a bun with bangs covering the girl’s small forehead. He blinked one more time.
“You’re a fucking fairy.”
The fairy giggled, small hands covering her pink mouth. “You summoned me.”
“No I didn’t, and you’re not really here.”
She crossed her arms and pouted. “You said, and I quote, ‘Seriously there should be something like the nutella fairy’, didn’t you?”
“Wait!” Changmin’s lips stretched into a smile. “This shit really exists?”
The fairy sighed. “Fairy Godmother totally ignored you when you said this the first time. I’m not as patient as her, so don’t force me to cut you.” She threatened with a pointed finger.
Changmin blinked at the threat before nodding his head. “Okay!” No one ever made Changmin this speechless, except Jaejoong when he told him the kinks he wanted Yunho to try on him when he was drunk.
“Now call me Choco-balls, cause that’s my name.” She ran her fingers through her bangs before flying to land on Changmin’s head.
“Choco-balls is sort of long, so I’ll just call you Choco.”
Choco sighed. “Humans!” She muttered before flying in front of Changmin’s face and offering her hand for a hand shake. “And I will call you Minnie, deal?”
Staring at the little hand thrust in front of him, Changmin couldn’t comprehend what was going on. A fairy appeared in front of him and he wasn’t freaking out. This headache was so bad it killed all his other senses that should be alert upon seeing a creature he only read in stories or watched in cartoons. Shrugging, Changmin offered his finger to the fairy that took it between her two tiny hands. She smiled at him before digging her hand in her purse, retrieving a small jar.
“Here!” She thrust the tiny jar in Changmin’s hand.
“What’s this?” He inspected the tiny jar with two fingers
“Nutella!”
“Mmmm,” He adjusted himself until he was sitting, staring at the tiny little object in his hand. “If you haven’t noticed by now, I’m sort of a giant.”
She rolled her eyes before tapping the jar with her hand, a sprinkle of brown dust landing on the lid. The jar shone and started expanding, transforming into a small sized nutella jar.
Changmin’s mouth stretched into a wide smile, eyes sparkling with happiness. He practically sobbed. “You are the nutella fairy!” He hugged the jar. “I fucking love you forever and ever and ever.”
The fairy giggled, sitting on the jar and smiling sheepishly. “Talking about love,” She flew and landed on Changmin’s shoulder, poking his neck. “Who is the one that captured your heart?”
“Why do you want to know? You’re the nutella fairy not the love fairy!” He shrugged, opening the jar of nutella and digging his finger in to scoop some chocolate into his mouth.
“Hey!” She slapped his hand, making the latter giggle at the almost no effect of her slap. “Use a spoon”
“Fine! Fine!”
Once in the Kitchen, Changmin started eating the chocolate using a spoon, humming as the sweet taste lingered in his mouth. “This is better than the normal nutella.”
“Of course. This is the original one!” the fairy flicked her bangs. “Now tell me, who is it?”
“Who is what?”
“The one you love?”
“No one!”
Choco-Balls quirked her eyebrows. “You know chocolate is associated with love right?”
“Since when?” Changmin retorted back, choking on nutella.
“Slow down, will you? I have endless supplies here,” She patted her purse. “And it’s since people started giving chocolate on Valentine’s Day.”
“So what? Are you the nutella and love fairy now?”
“Not really, but sort of. I can tell from the way people eat my chocolate whether they’re in love or not. From what I see, you are not just in love, you are so far gone that you’re actually hurting.”
Changmin’s mouth stopped moving, the chocolate further melting inside his mouth. “And how exactly did you come to this conclusion?”
The fairy tapped her head with her finger. “Nutella wisdom,”
Changmin snorted. “Yeah right!”
“Hey, I’m-“
Choco-ball’s reply was cut off by the sound of the door’s bell ringing. She flew next to Changmin as he walked to check the newcomer.
“Is it Yunho?” Choco asked.
Changmin raised an eyebrow. “It can’t be Yunho hyung and how the hell do you know him?”
She tapped her head again. “Nutella wisdom, remember?”
The tall boy rolled his eyes for the nth time at the little fairy. Seriously he thought he would never meet someone as snarky as himself, but apparently he was wrong, this fairy was so close to beating him. He opened the door before blinking yet again at the sight in front of him.
“Mmm, can I help you?” Changmin carefully asked the bearded man standing in front of him.
“Yes, take care of yourself bitch!” the man muttered before pulling down his beard revealing a very deep scowl.
“Yoochun!” Changmin didn’t mean to squeal but it came out so natural upon seeing Yoochun standing in front of him. Without thinking, he pulled him in a tight hug.
Yoochun’s expressions loosened from a scowl into a soft smile. He dropped the bags he was carrying and wrapped his arms around Changmin’s waist.
“What are you doing here?” Changmin asked. A wide smile on his face as he closed the door.
“I used to live here remember?” Yoochun reasoned, taking off his shoes.
“Smartass-ness is my specialty,” The taller boy snickered.
“First, that’s not even a word. Second, Yunho hyung called me. How’s your headache?”
Changmin glanced at the fairy flying around Yoochun, noticing that his friend couldn’t see her. He smiled, “It’s all better, ate some nutella.”
Yoochun crossed his arms. “Nutella? Really?” He pulled the bags he was carrying and thrust it in Changmin’s hands. “Energy doesn’t just come from chocolate. It comes from food, something you used to love more than anyone else.”
Sighing, Changmin took the containers of food Yoochun gave him and walked to the living room. “There’s no food in the house!” He simply stated, opening the first container, it was rice.
“Order?” Yoochun said, sitting next to Changmin, who was looking at anything but him.
“I don’t feel like eating from a restaurant.”
“So you starve yourself?”
Changmin sighed once again, sagging into the couch and closing his eyes. Feeling something landing on his chest, he fluttered his eyes open only to find the fairy staring at him.
“Is that him?” She asked with big curious eyes.
He closed his eyes again, ignoring the fairy. Seriously, he still couldn’t believe that there was an actual fairy in front of him. He creased his brows.
“Why are you frowning?” When he didn’t get a reply, Yoochun moved closer, putting his hand on Changmin’s thigh. “Have you had lunch?”
Changmin opened his eyes and glanced at the hand on his thigh before adjusting himself in his seat, the movement causing Yoochun to remove his hand.
“No, I didn’t.” He softly replied. “But that was because I woke up late that I have a day off today.”
“You are weird,” the fairy sat on Changmin’s shoulder, checking her nails. “You’re so quiet around him.” She stated.
Annoyed, Changmin brushed his shoulder, pushing the fairy and causing her to fall on the arm of the couch.
“YOU MEANY!” Her squeak made Changmin laugh evilly.
Yoochun gave him a weird look. “Now you’re crazy?”
Changmin cleared his throat. “You’re being motherly, it’s annoying.”
Yoochun gave him an incredulous look before sighing. He left to the kitchen for a few moments before coming back with spoons, and glasses of water and the jar of nutella.
“So you ate this?” he pointed at the nutella jar before sighing and taking the containers out of the bags and opening them one after the other. “Mom spent so much time making those so you better eat them all.”
Yoochun put the spoons on the table before throwing himself on the single armchair, turning on the TV right after.
“Wow!” Choco sat on the table next to the food. “Look at how you look at him!” She commented, flying away when Changmin’s hand tried to brush her away. “So he’s the one you love?”
Changmin ignored her, taking his eyes off of Yoochun’s body and concentrating on stuffing his mouth with all the home cooked food he longed to eat. His heart fluttered with every bite he took and every time he swallowed, a feeling of longing settled in the depth of his stomach. Opening the last unopened container of food, Changmin froze, the food in his mouth left not chewed and hard to swallow.
“Yoochun?” He called.
The other shut his eyes before turning to the other stunned man. “Yes?” he whispered.
“Did your mom make this?”
“Actually, no she didn’t. I know it’s your favorite, so I tried making it yesterday,” Yoochun chuckled, bitter more than amused. “It tastes horrible though, I’m not a good cook like JaeJae.”
“Why did you make it?” Changmin asked, hardly swallowing the food in his mouth.
“I…” Yoochun began, fingers brushing his bangs away from his face. “You crossed my mind so I made your favorite food.”
“Yup, he loves you too!” Choco nodded her head, expressions serious.
Changmin glared at her. She shrugged. “Nutella wisdom!”
“Changmin?”
Hearing his name being called, his attention shifted back to Yoochun, the latter’s expressions a mixed of sadness and worry. Changmin took a bite of the spicy chicken in the container and coughed right after.
“This is so fucking disgusting!”
Yoochun laughed, extending his hand to playfully shove Changmin’s shoulder.
“No really, this is the worst Buldak I’ve ever tasted.” Changmin made a face, gulping down the water Yoochun brought him from the kitchen earlier.
“That’s really mean you know?” Yoochun protested, still laughing.
“He made it with love and you say that? Tsk tsk, humans!”
Changmin almost forgot the existence of the fairy, remembering when he heard her remark.
“Thanks!” Changmin said in a faint voice, taking another bite of the chicken.
“Your welcome!” was Yoochun’s reply.
Changmin heard a sob. “You two fools are so in love it’s…”
The rest of her sentence wasn’t even heard as Changmin’s mouth blurted what his heart had longed to say. He didn’t even think, didn’t spend a second pondering on the words coming out of his mouth.
“Will you stay?”
Yoochun raised his head and watched as the other chewed on the chicken, eyes staring at the floor.
“Stay?”
Changmin finally lifted his head, putting down the container of food on the table. He nodded. “If I asked you to stay, just for tonight, will you stay?”
The question hung in the air, the silence followed causing Changmin’s breathing to go uneven. He felt a hand squeezing his heart, it was painful and it hurt more than any physical injury he felt before.
Why did he ask the question?
He had never thought of crossing the brotherhood line even though he was just, as the fairy predicted so in love that it had hurt for years. He lowered his head, waiting for the sorry to come, because it was predictable after all. Their situation didn’t help either.
“Do you want me to stay?”
The question totally took him off guard that the shock was shown on his face. Changmin took a few seconds to stare at Yoochun before he raised his shoulders.
“I’m… yeah of course, I’d love it if you…” he paused, eyes locking with Yoochun’s. “stay.” He finished, lowering his head.
“I can’t even with you two, freaking ridiculous.”
When Changmin lifted his eyes, Yoochun was smiling at him.
“I slept late yesterday,” Yoochun hopped on his feet, stretching his arms. “I’m going to bed. Wake me up if you need me.”
It was the third time in his life when he was left speechless. Changmin watched as Yoochun took off his scarf and walked in ease towards his old bedroom, the one he and Yunho kept clean at all times; just in case the others returned so they wouldn’t sleep on dusty beds. ‘Yoochun has asthma, dust is bad for his health were Yunho’s words every time he cleaned the rooms.
It was quiet. Frowning, Changmin turned in his seat to glance at the slightly opened door of Yoochun’s room before turning back again and staring at space. A smile found its way to his lips as his heart started dancing on a love song his brain was humming. He threw his head back and covered his face with his hands and giggled.
“God!” He muttered in a faint voice.
“You’re a hopeless case.” The fairy landed on Changmin’s knee.
“Shut up.” Changmin replied.
“Look!” She exclaimed, flying until she was in front of Changmin’s face. “It’s not funny anymore. It really isn’t.”
Changmin hushed her and stood to get the remote control to shut the TV off. The fairy didn’t give up, flying and roaming around his head.
“It’s not about you anymore. It’s about Yoochun too!”
The words made Changmin growl law in his throat before halting and glaring at the little fairy. He crossed his arms and twisted his lips. “What?”
“He is hurting too,” She said in a low sad voice. “I can feel it.”
“Nutella wisdom?” Changmin mocked.
“No!” Choco-balls replied sadly, shrinking on herself. “It’s his energy. It’s so gloomy it’s sucking mine too.”
Changmin uncrossed his arms, expressions turning from annoyed to worried. “What are you talking about?”
“I’ve been trying to tell you ever since he stepped into this house. Your love is not one-sided,” She flew and landed on Changmin’s hand, the latter raising it until it lined with his face. “He loves you too.” She finished with a serious, yet sad voice.
Changmin frowned, his eyes moving to stare at Yoochun’s room before dropping on the nearest chair. He couldn’t believe it. It was crazy enough that there was a fairy in front him, and to have been told that Yoochun loved him was overwhelming and absolutely unbelievable.
“Believe it, Changminnie.” Choco-balls patted his head.
“But…”
“Tell him, you must tell him.”
“I can’t.”
“Yes, you can.”
“What if you were wrong?”
“I’m not wrong. I’m sure. I swear on my nutella.”
Changmin turned off the lights of the living room and walked until he was standing in front of Yoochun’s room. He frowned yet again before shaking his head and heading to his room. After changing into his pajama and slipping under his blanket, he sighed.
“You’re making a big mistake.” The glow coming from the fairy providing the room with light the night sky took away.
“Can you please shut up and let me sleep?” Changmin said, impatience carved in his voice.
“You asked him to stay, so he stayed.,” the fairy reasoned. “Don’t disappoint him. Don’t disappoint yourself. This is your only chance.”
Needing to hear nothing, Changmin pulled the blanket to cover his face.
“You’re a coward. You’re hurting and he’s hurting. You two are cowards.”
Changmin squeezed his eyes shut; ignoring the flow of pleadings and insults the fairy was throwing at him. She had a point and he could see it. He could see himself in Yoochun’s arms, see Yoochun snuggle closer to him as they cuddle in front of the TV. He wished what his brain was seeing would come true; he wishes and had been wishing for so long.
“Please”
Maybe the fairy was right, maybe he should make a move, maybe he could tell Yoochun, his band mate that he loved him. He had told him those words before. ‘I love you’, but it was in a show, where they were told to write letters to each other, where they were expected to say the words and mean it in an absolutely brotherly way.
He could tell him, yes, he could. At the end, Yoochun could either interpret the words as brotherly or romantic.
“Please, Changmin, please.”
Changmin lowered the blanket, avoiding looking at the fairy as he planted his feet on the floor and walked out of his room. He stood in front of Yoochun’s room, taking a deep breath as he hesitantly pushed the door slowly open. He stood by the foot of Yoochun’s bed, watching his back.
Counting to three, Changmin slipped under the cover, took another deep breath before scooting closer. He extended his hand hesitantly, contemplating whether to rest it on the other’s shoulder or not. He yelped in surprise when Yoochun moved back, pressing himself against Changmin’s front.
“Yoochun?” Changmin called, hand resting on Yoochun’s waist.
“Hm?” Came the other man’s faint answer.
The grip on Yoochun’s waist tightened as Changmin moved closer, hand going around Yoochun’s small waist and landing on his stomach. Breathing hard, the taller man rested his head on Yoochun’s neck, gathering all the courage in the world to speak up the words he had been yearning to say for years.
“I love you.” He whispered, voice barely audible enough for Yoochun to hear.
The reply he got was a squeeze on his hand that was resting on Yoochun’s stomach.
“Took you long enough, dongsaeng.” Yoochun muttered with a chuckle, turning slowly until he was facing Changmin.
“Yoochun!” Changmin whispered, heart thumbing in his chest. He yelped again when Yoochun’s hand landed on his face, gently caressing his cheek.
“Shhhh,” Yoochun whispered, leaning closer. “Changmin-ah,” He breathed on Changmin’s face, leaning closer until his lips touched Changmin’s.
The mere touch sent shivers down Changmin’s body, his hand flying to clutch Yoochun’s arm as their lips stayed connected in the lightest kind of touches. He squeezed Yoochun’s arm tighter when the other moved his lips, kissing him ever so softly before pulling back.
“God!” Yoochun said, hands cupping Changmin’s face. “I’ve waited for you for so long.”
“Really?”
Changmin didn’t notice the droplet of tears flowing from his eyes until they were wiped by Yoochun’s soft hands. He closed his eyes as lips pressed against his eyelids, trailed on his cheek and went back to his lips. The kiss was still soft, with a little force to it that made Changmin’s whole being arch into the body pressed against him.
“I love you,” Yoochun said, pecking Changmin’s lips over and over again. “So much it hurts.” The sincere confession had the taller man’s heart melting.
“Fools”
Changmin looked up, only to find the little fairy hiding behind the bedpost and wiping her tears. He smiled gently and mentally thanked her, hoping that it would somehow reach her. Lowering his head, he pushed himself until he was pressed flush against Yoochun, his head resting in the crook of the other’s neck.
For some reason, no more words were needed. Their eyes closed as their arms around each other closed tighter. The erratic beating of their hearts molded and calmed as their consciousness slipped and sleep took over, pulling them into a peaceful slumber.
The fairy looked at their smiling faces and her lips mirrored their smiles. She flew in front of them, blew a sprinkle of dust on their heads and wished them happily ever after. She would leave them now, but she would be back.
Valentine’s Day was close and she needed to help them make some chocolate.
