So we had two season finales this weekend, and a few character losses (although those on CI I won't call them losses.) I don't think all of you have seen the VB finale yet so I'll just talk a little about the CI finale.
Criminal Intent "Frame": Listen, even if you don't watch this show, or even care, it has to be know that some mean serious business went down in this episode. I don't think the show has been as good since Carver and Deakins left and it took a SVU turn and got all personal and shit. I mean Goren is probably one of my favorite TV characters ever and I still really don't need all that much background on him to keep me interested. It was all too much. Too much drama, too much info, and god I can't believe I'm saying this, too much Goren.
But not only did Sunday's episode pretty much effectively wipe that slate clean, it did it in such an amazingly well crafted, interesting, twisted and impressively acted way I'm a bit blown away. A solid delicious puzzle to be solved, big bads defeated in shocking ways, and friends turned villains by the most twisted of motives; selfless love.
The whole episode was fantastic, but the last ten minute scene was one of the best scenes between two actors I've watched in a really REALLY long time, TV or otherwise. John Glover is frightening and brilliant, with that last smile and the little boy inside Vincent's eyes...is devastating. I never want to see that look in anyone I love's eyes ever. It was almost worse than the worse John Crichton break-down. No strike that, it was worse, but in a very different way.
All pomp aside, now that shit went down, I hope this really does mean Goren is "free" and we can get back to the business at hand next season. It's probably the last and I want some old time fun back. Cause re-watching season two lately? That was some damn good fun.
