Watching Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars. *sigh* I wish I had a time machine so I could go back in time and see a David Bowie concert. It's weird--they do these shots of the audience, and it reminds me so much of the crowds at Lady Gaga's concerts: young, inspired, open-minded, creative, joyful.

But at the same time, he comes off as way more authentic than her, and this is coming from me who fully believes Gaga is 100% transparent and honest in her zaniness. I think it boils down to he's a musician first and an culture artist second, and she's the opposite. She puts the theatricality first, which makes for a very impassioned, visually-striking but tightly crafted performance. I think when it comes to music, watching someone just perform the heart and soul of their music is the best thing. You can see her do that when she plays on the piano, and "You and I" is a great example of it, but the rest of her concert is very constructed.

Of course, he's a rocker and she's a pop musician. And as my friend pointed out, the music industry is such a racket now. Hard to be authentic if you're not a little singer in a little club.
