Like a Diary - Write For The Very First Time Part 1

Aug 01, 2006 19:41

An exercise in two parts, seeing if I could recount events occurring over a number of days.

Wednesday 19th July 06
Choir
Pick up Nettie after work. Confusion about meeting in car park. Head to Carlton for MUCS choir practice. Start with voice warm ups, singing the words 'bumblebee', 'cappuccino', 'cup-of-tea' low to high and back again. Stravinsky's 'Song of Psalms'= challenging.
Struggling. I started this undertaking not knowing how to read sheet music. Rehearsal hard going. Conductor clearly insane.

Thursday 20th July 06
Yoga
Have begun Beginners again, at Yarraville Yoga. First lesson. Apparently I'm not the only 'repeating' beginner. Same instructor as last time, Juanita. Good feeling about the class, but frustrated with myself, pushing to do better despite being told, 'it's not a competition'.

Friday 21st July 06
Departures/Food/Cocktail Bar
Craig and James arrive at my house. Jetting off to Tasmanian collectible-card nerd-fest with Stewart.
Take train into Melbourne, fall in love with her (again, always, always) as it pulls into Flinders St and the sun goes down. Meet Caleb at New Favourite Eating Place. Very crowded, a surprise-not-a-surprise. Kind hostess ensures we're seated. Maybe she remembered the Very Big Tip from last time. Wagyu cruda, rare tuna and rolled veal. Favourite cocktail imbibed, aptly named 'The Stolen Townbike'. Conversation - Heide opening, Stelarc's ear, burlesque, old jobs, careers, party-goers vs. party givers .
Move onto Madam Brussels. Chat to one of the bar staff, who assisted me during the Nicked Mobile debacle. Ogle at each other's new phones. Sip a pony of Beck's. Bump into a friend of Caleb's. She has a friend with her, who Has Breasts And Isn't Afraid To Use Them. Midway - phone call from Gilla. Breast are later pondered, are they some kind of test?
Receive scrambled text messages from Leah. Later told that red wine + cellphones + meds = bad.

Saturday 22nd July 06
Mattress - New mattress delivered. Hurrah.

Lucas - Evening.
Dinner at Chocolate Buddha. Talk music, going overseas, hand injuries. Shows me his TheraPutty. He doesn't believe how drunk I can get.
St Jeromes - I get that drunk. Lucas distracted by beautiful women. I know one of them, used to work with her. So drunk I dare not stumble over and say hello, for she is an Elegant Beautiful Woman there with other Elegant Beautiful Friends. Luke decides she's the prettiest one there. Oh, boy. Sorry, Luke. I haven't seen her in an age, and I'm far too pissed to try an introduction.
St Jeromes - the appeal = it's just like every skanky AC/DC blaring sharehouse you had the best parties at.
Stumble out doing that tipsy-hugging-mates thing.
Asprin in water when I get home.

Sunday 23rd July 06
Call from Nada, burlesque workshop cancelled. She is horribly ill. Poor love.
Hang out with Lauren. Purchase legwarmers (with stirrups!). Pick up Stewart and compatriots from airport. Get arrival terminals confused.

Monday 24th July 06
Make will at State Trustees. One thing I have always appreciated in my dealings with lawyers - they understand when you have to do something unpleasant.
Meet Stewart's colleagues. The office is decorated with animal cut-outs, giving it that kindergarten vibe. Charmed.
Take Manic to vet. He copes well.
Wendy comes over for dinner. Haven't seen her in a long time, didn't want to involve her when Shit Hit The Fan with my life. Good to see her again. Showed us her balaclava, which came with her new big ski jacket. Tentative plan to go see Pirates with her.

Tuesday 25th July 06
Dinner with Leah, The Lounge. Sherry and biscotti at New Favourite Eating Place afterward. Discuss family, careers, boys.

Wednesday 26th July 06
Choir extremely enjoyable. Start on Carmina Burana. Bawdy references and jokes made. Comment to Florienne 'I thought I'd left that part of my life behind!' Stravinsky easier to follow. Understanding more now, not just bumbling through. Pizza afterwards, talked to other choristers.
Karaoke afterwards. Stay TOO LATE. Sang Garbage (pun if you will), INXS with Disco Stu and Iggy Pop.
