If you ever get too close to me'>
Adam watched as the wolf crept closer. Brown eyes flashing bright in the moonlight.
“Tommy, please tell me you are seeing this,” Adam whispered over his shoulder.
“Dude, there’s a big ass wolf in your backyard. I am so seeing this.” Tommy slowly knelt in the grass.
“What are you doing? Stand up!”
Tommy ignored Adam and held his hand out toward the wolf.
The wolf cocked his head to the left and slowly slunk forward, his ears twitching, listening to the night. He pressed his nose against Tommy’s outstretched hand, butting his head against Tommy’s fingertips.
The wolf huffed.
*
Tommy let out a shocked laugh when the wolf flopped down on the grass, his head lying on Tommy’s leg.
“Tommy?” Adam crouched down, his hand tentatively reaching out to the wolf in Tommy’s lap.
The wolf turned and gazed up at Adam with startlingly familiar eyes. Adam gasped out a breath and ran his hand over the dark brown fur.
“You tried to tell me didn’t you? You warned me you weren’t what I thought you were. I just never imagined this.” Adam gently scratched along the base of the wolfs ears.
“Who are you talking to?” Tommy whispered.
*
“Kris.” Adam said softly as he gazed down at the animal in the grass.
“What? No, that’s not...” Tommy stared down at his lap. The wolf looked up, large brown eyes shining in the dark. “Oh god, Kris?”
The wolf twitched his ears and huffed, before he licked at Tommy’s hand. A shudder rolled through the animal as he suddenly stood up and backed away. Tommy and Adam both stood up, watching as the wolf sat back on his haunches, looking at them.
Suddenly he threw his head back and howled, his body arching sharply.
They stood there silently, frozen.
*
The sound of bones shifting and cracking filled the night. Harsh breathing, high pitched whining riding the wave of sound.
Suddenly it was silent.
Adam looked at the spot where there was once a wolf.
There was Kris, naked and shivering in his yard. Pulling his hoodie off, Tommy rushed over and draped it over Kris’ shoulders. Coming over to Kris’ other side, Adam put his arm around Kris’ waist to help him stand up.
“Let’s get you inside, and then you can explain this.” Adam said against Kris’ hair.
Kris just nodded his hand grasping tight to the hoodie.
*
Getting Kris a pair of sweats, Adam waited in the living room, watching Tommy pace the area in front of him.
Tommy stopped as Kris came in the room.
“Kris? Can you tell us what’s going on?” Adam asked quietly.
Kris sighed and curled up on the couch. “It’s a long story.”
“We have time.” Tommy said as he sat next to Kris, taking his hand and squeezing.
“It happened three years ago, give or take a few months.”
“Three years? On the tour?” Adam asked shock lacing his words.
“Yeah, crazy huh? Never thought it would happen to me.”
*
“But why didn’t you...”
“Why didn’t I ever think to tell you that I’m a monster?” Kris asked quietly as he looked at his hands, one still held tight in Tommy’s grip.
“You aren’t a monster. But I wish you would have told me.” Adam said as he sat on Kris’ other side, taking his free hand, lacing their fingers together. “I could have helped.”
“How?”
“By not letting you go through this alone. I would have been there.”
“Hey, none of that coulda, woulda... We’re here now. “ Tommy piped up, running his fingers through Kris’ hair.
Kris moaned softly.
