Good News, Good News
I am so pleased to report that the boy's teacher is AWESOME. We are gearing up for outdoor school and I just had a wonderful meeting with the boy's teacher. We went over the menu, and found things he could eat and things I could supplement, and things the camp could change. The teacher was so helpful and concerned that the boy feel included. I was bowled over.
In the course of the conversation he told me that his daughter became vegetarian in 3rd grade. He went on to say that they helped her and supported her and she's been vegetarian ever since (she's now a grown up). I told him that was commendable. He brushed it off, saying she wasn't vegan. And I clarified that I thought it was commendable that he supported her choice. And then we got to talk about how great it is to let kids make their own choices.
The last thing that really struck me in the meeting was while we were looking over the menu, I said I didn't think the boy would want to eat eggs, but that it would be his choice while he was there. The teacher said that he didn't think that the boy would do that, he's very firm in his ethics. WOW! I'm so proud of my boy!
