Friday five

1. It's 17 days until Christmas. How do you feel about that? Kind of panicked, because I still need to get gifts for people..every year I say I'm going to do it early, but it never seems to happen lol
2. It's the second night of Hanukkah. How do you feel about that? Cool!
3. It's Howie Hawkins's birthday. Have you wished him a happy birthday yet? I don't know who that is
4. John Lennon died on this date in 1980. Your reaction? Sad :(
5. Beethoven's 7th Symphony premiered in Vienna with Beethoven conducting, on this day in 1813. Can you hum any part of the 7th? No, I don't think I'm familiar with that one

I just read a book about a guy's travels (Horizon), which had interesting parts (especially when he went to Cape Crozier and saw the remains of Cherry, Birdie and Wilson's shelter), but he kept going off on these super long, tedious and boring tangents (I'm pretty sure he challenged himself to find the most obscure words possible and put them everywhere in his book). I hate not finishing a book, so I kept plodding along, and then I read this: "Autistics and psychopaths, though some in either group are highly intelligent, have a limited ability to empathize, to move into higher levels of intentionality and be attentive there to the needs, the fears, and the hopes of other people." "Autistics"?? Really?? I suppose that could be true with some autistic people, but anyone can tell you I'm an empath..when someone gets upset, I take on their emotions, and want to cry along with them. Ugh, I hate generalizations like that..it makes me wonder if he's ever met anyone with autism..we're all unique! I was SO happy when I finished the book earlier haha..the part about Antarctica definitely saved it from being a two-star book :P

I caught whatever sickness is going around town (when I said I wanted more time in the day to do addictive hidden letter/number games, getting sick is NOT what I meant LOL). I either got it from mom or my 91 year old coworker who was coughing and dripping everywhere. *shudders* Mom had a fever for like a week, but I seem to have gotten just the cough and tiredness part. I always feel guilty missing work, but Abby's loving the extra cuddle time haha

2 - Play Basketball Day: Have you ever played basketball? Yeah, in PE, and with a neighbor friend in Texas..I was actually pretty good at getting the ball in the basket lol

3 - Make a Gift Day: Do make gifts for anybody? How about cards? No, mom didn't gift me with her craftiness :P

4 - Wear Brown Shoes Day: Do you own any brown shoes? I think my hiking boots are brown..

5 - National Repeal Day: December 5th marks the end of prohibition in the United States (back in 1933). If you're not American, did your country ever prohibit the sale of alcohol (or maybe it still does)? Does it make sense that alcohol is legal, but other substances aren't? I'm American, and while alcoholism is a problem, there are worse things, like heroin and meth

6 - Put on Your Own Shoes Day: How old were you when you learned to put on your own shoes? How about when you learned to tie your own shoelaces? Sometime when I was a kid, though it took me longer than most to learn how to tie my shoelaces for some reason..

7 - Cotton Candy Day: Do you like cotton candy? (Also known as Fairy Floss.) I've only had it once when I was a kid, it was alright

8 - Lost and Found Day: Have you ever lost something important to you and thought you would never get it back, but then you found it or someone returned it to you? Yeah, I lent a copy of Worst Journey to a coworker, who then just disappeared. One day she just appeared again (I was pretty surprised, though it was nice seeing her again), and gave me back the book..very nice of her lol
