I identified as bisexual from childhood. During part of high school I felt I should change that label and began identifying as a lesbian. I was comfortable this way for a couple years, but then I met JH. Being that he's a dude, it kind of changed things, so I get a bit of what you mean.
And oh, how many people have been laughing since at me, saying it was "just a phase" (me liking women) and how I wanted to be "special" so I called myself a lesbian. It's all such bullshit. Since reaching adulthood I went back and forth between wondering if I should identify as bisexual or pansexual, but ultimately I realized- fuck it!
I'm queer. I know that. I love it all. Don't need a label. I think that's why a lot of people are reclaiming the word queer. For some, it's empowering to be more specific, but for others, sexuality is more fluid, like you said. We are growing, changing beings. Sometimes, as we meet people, our attractions change too. Not the absolute, but it does happen to many.
