Room 218, Monday Afternoon

Sep 14, 2009 14:31

Karla was in her room again, trying to decide where to hang her new paintings that she'd gotten from Sophie's gallery. Circle of Trust was probably going to hang above her desk, but she wasn't sure where to hang Stardust. The painting was amazing and would look lovely at the head of her bed, but she wouldn't be able to look at it while she was ( Read more... )

< Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarla. > Perhaps one of the best parts about being a telepath was the fact you didn't actually have to yell down the hall at people to warn them of impending doom.

Or in this case, impending bored Emma, which really amounted to the same thing.

Another moment and she was rounding the corner and flouncing into Karla's room without bothering to knock. "Entertain me, darling."

A bottle of wine and some chocolate appeared in the air in front of Emma while Karla stood on air, trying to get her painting to hang right while a hammer floated next to her. *In a minute* she sent, flashing a quick grin down at Emma around a mouth full of nails. *I will hang this blasted painting if it's the last thing I do.*

Emma made a happy sound and deftly plucked the wine and chocolate from the air before going to flop on Karla's bed. "If I was a teke, I'd help," she offered, already picking through the chocolates. "Sadly, I'm already so fabulous that the Powers That Be decided I only needed one gift."

*A teke?* Karla asked, making a frustrated huffing sound as the painting shifted crookedly. *I can't argue the fabulous, but what's a teke?*

"Telekinetic. Moving objects with our fascinating brains," Emma replied as she licked chocolate from her fingers. "Do you want me to hold nails or something? I can probably manage that while obeying the laws of gravity and physics and such."

"Oh, like Craft," Karla said, using it to float the nails down to Emma. And to float a few chocolates up. Blech. Nails tasted fairly gross. "And would you please. Somehow two hands and Craft still aren't enough to hang up this blasted picture." She glared at the painting for a moment, then softened. "What do you think of my new art?" she asked proudly.

She reached out to catch the nails, carefully cupping them in her hands as she stood near Karla.

"Shiny," Emma replied instantly, because that really was the first thing that came to mind. "I rather like that one. It looks likes some strange underwater flower."

"It makes me think of outer space," Karla said, sighing happily. "And dancing among the stars. I picked them up from the art gallery in town. And learned about money! And Amazon.com. Did you know you can buy books right on your computer? And then they're delivered to your door! It's astral."

"'Astral,' darling?" she echoed, amused. "I've discovered the wonders of the internet, but I haven't actually bought anything off of it yet."

Karla flushed. "Ben and Ender" but mostly Ben "use it. I just picked it up, I guess."

"So I ran into a friend of yours on the roof today," Karla said, so not trying to change the subject. "Alex. He's cheeky."

"Alex is a lot of things," Emma replied wryly. "Cheeky is one word for him, I suppose."

"Sassy, then?" Karla asked with a smirk. "Definitely mouthy. We had a lovely chat, wherein he informed me that I was to be pitied, as I'd never experienced the wonder that was his bedroom skills."

"I laughed. I probably wasn't supposed to do that, was I?"

Emma rolled her eyes. "Just hit him with a rolled-up newspaper," she replied, amused. "His ego is well-earned, I'll admit, but he looses points in the 'occasionally insufferable' category."

"But he says what he thinks and thinks what he says, which is rather refreshing, and he's fun to tease."

"I was amused," Karla assured her. "Even when he said I'd probably be fun in bed. No one's ever said that about me before. Or thought it, probably."

That wasn't technically true. One person had. But she wasn't counting that. Alex, as far as she could tell, had meant it as a half-assed and backwards compliment. The Opal Warlord had just been trying to scare her that much further.

"I'm sure plenty of people have thought it, Alex is just the type to actually say it out loud," Emma pointed out. "We should find a way to pick on him tomorrow, just to teach him not to mess with the Stepford Cuckoos pretty blonde telepaths."

Karla just smiled and shook her head. Emma was always so willing to believe nice things about her, just because they were friends.

"Right!" Karla snapped. "We have class with him, don't we? Hmm..." she thought for a minute. "Does he know you're a telepath?"
