The Rocky Bits, Monday Afternoon

Karla was no so foolish as to think that her life in the future with Warren and her children would be perfect or easy. Life didn't work that way, even if the random weekends almost made it seem that way.

Today, however, she was getting a taste of just how obnoxious her future family could be. She still loved them! Really! She did! But it was spring, see, and spring brought out the worst in people. People with wings, specifically. Dealing with a molting Warren by himself was one thing, but dealing with three molting people, all of whom whined (at least Kayla, being almost-seven, had an excuse; the males did not) about how uncomfortable and itchy they were.

So now they were sitting in a line, Karla scratching Warren's wings who was scratching Nommy's who was scratching Kayla's. She could only imagine how ridiculous they looked, like a line of monkeys or something, but at least it cut down on the complaints some.

"Don't worry, Mom," Nommy said, eyes closed and looking almost blissful, "You declare molting week to be a vacation and leave us behind to spend time in another reality."

Before today, Karla would have judged her future-self pretty hard for that. Now, after a day of this? "Thank the Darkness I still have sense in the future."
