Christmas Day, SaDiablo Hall, Dhemlan, Kaeleer

Dec 25, 2012 12:30

After a long time talking and making up, it was a much happier Warren and Karla that had come down for a Christmas luncheon--which, at four courses, was still nothing compared to the Christmas feast that Mrs. Beale was preparing for supper. Karla had given her a bunch of Earth cookbooks for Winsol one year and Mrs. Beale had apparently decided that ( Read more... )

Of course Warren was here for Christmas. He'd come here on Christmas Eve, and had staked out a corner of the room with the tree in it, mostly because of the comfortable chair.

He'd made up with his girlfriend and he was surrounded by friends, and he was kind of immersing himself in Christmas carols on his phone for the past few days. He was ready for you, Christmas. Totally and completely.

"Warren Warren Warren," Dinah chanted, thus deep-sixing any sneakiness of approaching him from the back. "I made it!"

"Dinah, Dinah, Dinah," Warren replied, grinning a little as he turned to nod his hello at her. "You did. How was the trip?"

Dinah offered the wine bottle and a hug, and answered, "Would've been traumatizing, landing in a harem on some alien planet, if they'd been anything resembling human, and they didn't think I was an adorable pet. I think. Possibly an adorable house-plant. They kept feeding me while I waited for the next portal, though. And pouring water over my head."

"Well, I suppose at least you don't have to worry about dehydration, that way." Warren offered her another smile, and a 'what are you gonna do?' sort of shrug of his shoulders before reaching to take the wine and the hug. "You're here in one piece now, anyhow, that's the important thing. How's your Christmas been?"

"Good. Usual family weirdness aside. Dick and Helena sniping, the guys throwing things over the table. Alfred sent more dessert." Dinah hugged him hard, and then rested back on her heels with a small smile. "You? How's Sunnydale? Raven told me there was some epic weirdness when she visited."

"Pretty sure Sunnydale's actively trying to kill me," Warren replied, wrinkling his nose. "Between the weird guys in suits and the freaky Halloween party... Holidays. It's got to be holidays that are out to get us all."

Which was not actually the reason that he was here in Kaeleer, but it certainly helped.

"Weird guys in suits," Dinah echoed, then shuddered, remembering what little Raven had said. "Gah. Better or worse than Fandom?" she wondered. Or Kaeleer, but didn't say. "And you might be on to something about the holidays."

"Less actively weird than Fandom, more prone to trying to kill people far more often," Warren decided. "I guess demons are a bit more commonplace in Sunnydale, since it's on the Hellmouth, and all."

Thanks again, Wesley, for educating Warren about that particular tidbit only after he'd been accepted into the school.

"I'm halfway through my year there, though. And most of it was pretty much just like I thought a normal life was supposed to be like. It just kind of went by in a blur."

"Yiiiikes. Times when I'm glad I just have criminals to worry about." Dinah shook her head. "You be careful there, sheesh. Oh, is your roommate still being a major jerk?" Karla had shared some hilarious details about sex-change day, yes.

"Of course," Warren replied, shaking his head a little more. "I'm pretty sure he's going to be a psycho frat-boy until the day I leave. It's something he kind of excels at."

Warren had a healing factor and a genetically superior metabolism, and he had difficulty keeping up with Asher's drunken... Asherness.

"I need to meet him before you leave. So I can hurt him a little. Or a lot. Depending." What? Don't judge her! Not many Gotham U drunken frat-boys were willing to get in Dinah's way any more. "I am so lucky Gabby's my awesome roommate. She even sang 'Happy Birthday' to Priestly when he drunk-dialed us last month."

"Okay, I definitely haven't gotten any drunken singing," Warren mused, looking thoughtful. "I almost feel left out, you know? All I get is dragged to frat parties I don't want to go to, and called 'bra' a lot."

"I'll tell Priestly to call you too, next time." Dinah snickered. "'Bra'? Seriously? Where is this guy pretending to be from, the Caribbean?"

"Probably more like some part of New York he's never actually been to," Warren decided with a shrug. "Heck if I know. I'm kind of starting to have ignoring it down to an art. Otherwise I'd never get anything done, you know?"

"Heh. I'm glad you only have one semester left, then." Dinah blinked, realizing, "One semester. And you and Karla will be permanently in Kaeleer and... nooooo. No, it has to still be years away, jeez."
