If you want to take in the scenery, try to avoid the angry unicorns with pointy horns, try to hug the unicorns with pointy horns Momoko, please don't hug the unicorns, figure out what you want to do...whatever.

[Think of this as the arrive & mingle thread of a party thread? Only with worse decorations.]

//Good lord...//

The sky above wasn't blotted out with laughing Jhinka, and there was no smoke rolling in around them to herald a certain death to any who breathed it in, but what Jono found himself looking at now held shades of so many other Kaeleer nightmares. Brutal and merciless and unforgiving.

The moment he was given the okay to move, he was going to do exactly that.

Somebody was going to answer for this.

Evan was too thrown by the carnage around him to do anything but stand and stare in shock while the unicorns attempted to beat down the shield that had been erected around the group. Tears threatened to roll down his cheeks, but he fought them back.

Why did something like this happen?

Why were people not happy until they had broken everything beautiful around them?

Warren's one concession to needing to get dressed before coming here had been to throw on the pants that he'd snagged before running out of the bedroom back at the Hall. More importantly, he had his bladed sticks in hand, and he had his wings.

He remained silent as Saetan and Ladvarian negotiated with the unicorns, wings still tinted red with the blood of Glacia's war mantled behind him.

The moment the order was given, those wings were going to unfurl, and Warren was going to take to the sky.

Dinah approached Warren, one hand still tangled in Swift's mane. She'd taken off her mask after seeing how the unicorns were reacting to humans not in intimidating costumes, but her armored uniform stayed on, the bird of prey symbol visible against the black.

"Do we know who attacked them?" she asked, skipping all the hellos.

"Aside from 'humans,'" Warren replied, shaking his head, "not exactly. Our one upside is that it should be easy enough to pick out the Blood around here. the sort of people that usually come when we give out the all-call is pretty distinctive."

His voice was grim. It matched his expression and the way his claws were scoring into the handles of his sticks neatly.

"There will be Hell to pay for it, whoever it was."

It was hard, so hard, to look down on all those dead bodies. Dinah made herself do it, eyes squinted against tears. "Yeah." She took another breath, and said, "If there's any dead humans down there-- and there have to be some-- we should take a look at the remains. So we can find out who sent them. And if they're coming back."

And God, she didn't want to, this was nightmare fuel for years. But someone had to do it. Someone who didn't know the dead unicorns as well as the Glacians and other Kaeleerans, probably.

"I will," Warren said simply. "If we don't find out in the fight itself, I'll go digging through the bodies. You focus on keeping the unicorns safe, on keeping safe yourself."

His feathers lifted a little, bristling at the thought of what would happen the moment he spotted anyone raising a hand to the kindred.

"Better still if we can take one of the bastards alive."

They'd learn far more from a live man than his corpse.

"I'm not here to be safe." Was Kaeleer ever safe? Was anywhere? But yeah. Warren's priorities were hers too; live unicorns over dead humans.

"If you do find someone, grab me. Or one of the other telepaths. We can get the truth out of a human Blood faster than you can, probably." Time saved was lives saved.

*I will protect Dinah,* Swift offered, his mental voice grim but shaky. *And the little ones. And all the rest, Prince Warren.*

All those Kindred, that were so much like him.... Dinah hugged him again, closing her eyes.

"Good." Warren gave a short nod, grim and to the point, and then turned to look out toward the land stretched out before them. "I'll keep an eye out for anyone who needs protecting. I can see more than you from up there. Swift, you keep in touch with me, and I'll point you both in the right direction."

*Yes, Prince Warren,*" Swift agreed, and Dinah nodded.

"I'll stick close to him. I've got some extra New Gotham surprises on me this time." She took a breath. "You stay safe as well. Healing factor or not, I wish you were wearing armor too."

Really, Warren wasn't going to say as much, but really, they were lucky he'd taken the time to pull on pants today.

"I'll have to have some made, one of these days," he replied, nodding. "Something that accounts for the wings. I'll ask Lucivar what the Eyriens generally use."

He kind of suspected that Lucivar's answer would be something along the lines of, 'The Eyriens don't get stabbed in the first place,' but it never hurt to check.

Which, fair enough, but Eyriens also had Jewels to make magic shields, so -- maybe Oracle could design something?

Birthday present for Warren, check.

Dinah put that idea on hold for the moment, and swung up on Swift's back. "We'll head that way down the slope. I'll yell for back-up if we need it."

Karla grabbed his arm before he could take off. "Warren," she said, tipping her head back to look him in the eye.

Warren hesitated, inhaled, and then half-folded his wings again.

"Karla," he murmured, looking down at her in turn. He was itching to take off, wings twitching behind him, but her hand on his arm was a certain tether. He wasn't going anywhere, not so long as his Queen needed him on solid ground.

"Kill them," she said through clenched teeth. "Kill them all for me. I have to stay here so you have to do it for me. Kill them."
