The Estate, Sidra, Glacia, Friday (Fandom Time)

May 13, 2016 12:18

It was a beautiful day in early fall, the kind of day where warm sunshine poured over the land like honey, saved from being overly warm by a refreshing breeze. The leaves had started to turn colors on the edges and the air smelled green as the crops in the fields readied themselves for harvest. Glacian winters were long and bitterly cold, the ( Read more... )

Lord, it was strange to be back here. It had been a while, and Jono was still a little twitchy about setting foot in Glacia, if only for fear that somebody would recognize him as the General and he'd have to put that hat on and play the role.

At least on the estate itself, he didn't have to be much of anything but himself. And he could go around with his wrappings off because if anybody did make a big deal of it, there would be hell to pay.

... Besides, there were babies to meet. Meet, and possibly attempt to smuggle out for ice cream.

Or just smuggle out in general, but he figured he wouldn't get terribly far with that one, no.

It was weird to be back here, all the same. Sort of like an odd, temporary homecoming. He was putting forth a good effort to not look as awkward as he felt, looking around the estate to see what had changed since he'd left last.

[OOC: Oh god, the biggest SP clause ever tonight because of course Dad wanted to run a murder mystery party on Friday the 13th.]

You didn't have to be telepathic to interpret that look - you just had to know Jono.

"We're leaving with precisely the number of children we came with," Hannibal said firmly.

Which, for the record, was none, in case Jono had forgotten.

//Precisely that number? Did you remember to take inventory before we came?//

But look at them, Hannibal! Look at them!

"I did," Hannibal answered. "It took no time at all." On account of there being no children.

//Curses,// Jono muttered. //Foiled again by your superior counting skills.//

It was probably for the best. Karla would have him shaved if he kidnapped the children.

"I'm certain we can offer to babysit," Hannibal conceded a little reluctantly. "But perhaps not just yet."

//Let me guess,// Jono replied, half teasing as he leaned in a little, //no babysitting until the youngest is old enough to vote?//

He knew what you thought of Kayla in her only-marginally-older years.

Hannibal shook his head. "No babysitting until after the wedding and honeymoon," he corrected. "I should think that's reasonable."

Jono tilted his head. The wedding was only a few weeks away, after all. That seemed perfectly doable.

//Fair enough,// he replied with a nod. //Until the wedding, the focus is going to be on the wedding. That's perfectly reasonable, yes.//

"Thank you."

Hannibal didn't exactly want children on his honeymoon, either; somehow, he suspected neither did Jono.

Yeah, as much as Jono adored Kayla, there was a line to be drawn in the sand at that one. Juuuust a little.

//Of course.// He gave his shoulders a shrug. //We're liable to be too busy between now and then to be able to pay enough attention to them, at any rate. Plenty of running around left t'do.//

"Mostly tailoring left to do," Hannibal said, only slightly pointedly. That meant standing still for a tailor, Jono.

//You know, you're not making an excellent case for spending less time babysitting,// Jono replied, putting his nose into the air and crossing his arms. //Though I suppose it's a necessary evil. And I'll only have to do it the once...//

Poor Jono.

"We can have jeans tailored to you at the same time," Hannibal offered.

...

//That sounds like a bribe.//

Jono was not above bribery.

"Does it? I can't imagine why."

Neither was Hannibal.
