Inside the Estate, Sidra, Glacia, Late Afternoon

Oct 13, 2013 20:32

There were a lot of things Karla had wanted to do as soon as they entered the estate. Look around again and see how much had changed from her memories. Find old servants and friends and see if they were as glad to see her as she was them. Drag her friends by the hand and show off the home she'd grown up in. Make an inventory of every hideous ( Read more... )

Momoko was sitting as near as Dinah wanted, but she was really by herself. Knees held tight against her chest, she sat and watched the clouds move across the sky trying to sort things out from her own argument.

Dinah was squinched close to Momoko for body heat. It was pretty chilly up there. She could feel her tears drying out on her face. Her head was pounding from all the crying.

And when she was calm again, she wanted to cry again, only with sadness instead of panic. Everything was so. messed. up.

Momoko was thinking over Karla's last words... about the difference between a hero and a Queen. She didn't feel that this was one of those times, but she couldn't pinpoint why.

And that made her... sad? Mad? Both? She wasn't sure. She just wasn't sure.

Dinah looked down into the valley below them, far, far, far down. Far enough that there were clouds drifting by, about two stories below them.

"Jumping?"

Words sucked. She didn't have any others. And if she thought about this again, she'd just get mad again, and... yeah.

Momoko inhaled for a moment then looked down where Dinah was staring. Through experience, she quickly calculated the fall and how long it would safely last...

"Free fall or running?" Momoko also pointed out what would make a very nice parkour run. Not for the first time, Momoko was glad she had figured out how to wear pants over her costume. "Your choice. I'll be with you either way."

Dinah looked where Momoko was pointing, and suddenly felt as if running was the only thing she wanted to do. "Running. Then jumping? You'll catch me." No doubt at all. She got to her feet, brushing off her pants. "Ready?"

Momoko took another breath and then smiled weakly. "Always." To everything.

She stood and stamped a foot, then grabbed Dinah's hand to float down to the start of the 'run' before taking off.

Running wasn't Momoko's personal choice for release. But the concentration she had to put into staying alive while trying to leap crevasses, clamber up cliffs, and balance on boulders on top of a snow-covered mountain meant she had little time to think of anything else, so that was helpful.

(And yes. Every so often she looked back to make sure Dinah was still okay. She was better at this sort of thing than Momoko, but it was still dangerous.)

The great thing about this was that there was no way Dinah could think about anything except her second-to-second surroundings while doing this. Keeping an eye on Momoko too. But there was always another angle to calculate, another grip to adjust, and anything else ... just went away.

Hand hold becomes foot hold, ledge becomes launch pad, and suddenly there's no where to land next for a normal person so Momoko hesitates only long enough to grab Dinah's hand before jumping like Reno with his ass on fire as high and as hard as she can, pulling her BFF with her.

Normal was for other people. They'd just won a war, no mountain was going to stop them.
