Disappointment
I've honestly been brought to a point of disappointment again but this one actually shocks me a little. I went to a gay community looking for some sort of support and understanding in a situation and the majority of what I got was insulted? We're beaten because of a lack of freedom. No one lets us live the way we want: they try to stick their morals into our lives. Therefore, we're highly suspicious of anyone who wants to restrict freedom, and say, "You can't do this." What if homosexuality is the next thing we can't do? Everything we've fought for is gone.
You say there's a difference between artistic critiques of religion and a game about a massacre, and you're right--but how does that get enshrined in law? No art about massacres? What's the difference between a game that seeks to understand a massacre--a game that is a work of art--and a game that exploits it? We may know when we play one, but how do you prove it in a court of law? You can't. People will argue that anything that offends them is just exploitation.
People argued Howl was just exploitation, remember. Howl, one of the greatest poems of the 20th century. Professors of literature argued this.
And, even if your category for censorship is just things about people who died (everybody is someone's children), then what happens when a mother wants no references to homosexuality because it killed her son through AIDS?
Courts of law are too imprecise for anything like censorship, because any argument you use will be twisted into some other form. Andrea Dawkin worked hard to get Canada to tighten its border confiscations, so that inappropriate material wouldn't be imported. Once they did, what happened? Andrea Dawkin's books got confiscated--they were inappropriate.
You don't want to see games about the V-tech massacre? Then you should complain to the newsmakers. They're the ones who chose to tell you about the game. If it weren't for them, the game wouldn't have been seen by anyone. However, they wanted a story, so they told everyone. They got everyone all offended for a profit.
Perhaps you should stop insulting us and try considering our point of view instead. We gave you one small insult--we told you to get off your high horse.

This was just a cursory examination, and, from our one insult, you have returned ten.
Also, our insult was about your argument--you were trying to say what's appropriate and what's not--you were elevating yourself to judge in this case. We responded to you in this individual case, not about your essential self.
You responded about our essential selves--we ARE this. We ARE foolish. We ARE stupid (because we have no brains).

Yes I said things out of anger, that people there are foolish but I clarified I wasn't speaking about EVERYONE there. There were a few attention hogs there who just want to look smart in front of their buddies that just insulted someone for feeling horrible and wanting to help this broken up sweet lady.
As far as homosexuality killing someone through AIDs, you either don't know how to look into situations and judge them properly or didn't even think about it completely. Homosexuality doesn't cause AIDs, if we went on to what causes AIDs and we wanted to get rid of it we'd be turned into a bunch of racist assholes. A statistics study I found a while back ago had shown a lot of African-American females had the HIV virus, their boyfriends would get it from them, spread it to other girls after cheatting on their girlfriend, and on the "down low" would spread it to homosexuals. If we want to continue on that a LOT will be said that would seriously upset a lot of people and quite frankly I don't believe that sort of action is to be taken.
This game was made to hurt people, and that's it. You want to go into the politics of censorship then by all means do, fight those who're censoring everything such as putting ratings on video games like the Mature label, stopping pornography on day time television. If you feel those are proper to censor then don't tell me that a game made to spite people and hurt them not even a MONTH after they lost someone shouldn't be censored.
Let's also not forget to mention that your arguments, as well as everyone else's, are biased to begin with. I tried to be mature, and I got fed up once some jackass decided to insult me. You wanna go off on someone go off on him for just attacking a person who wanted to maturely bring things up and fight something they felt is wrong, instead of bringing up points in a decent manner as to why they think it's wrong to censor such a thing.
Certain censorships are not bad, art is lost with no meaning anymore because all people want to do is piss someone off then scream and whine about their Freedom of Speech. Please.
