San Fran in 7 Points or Less

I find I don’t really have the words to fully describe how my trip went. It’s probably more interesting to me than you anyhow but just so the stalkers know how I rolled.

Saturday
-After a long bus ride I finally made my way through the Financial District. It’s a bitch to do with two heavy (if rather attractive) bags. And it’s been a while since I had to hail a cab so it took forever but eventually I made my way to the house.

-Chloe waited for me with water, wine and pizza so that we could head off to Lucy’s birthday in the park together. (‘Sixteen Candles’ was playing.) Unfortunately Chloe wasn’t feeling well and I was tired from the trip and not up to trying to find people in a dark park on the night of an 80’s film showing so we stayed in.

-I met Chloe’s boyfriend Lennon for the first time. He played the accordion for me, plunged the tub and generally was all hands. It was all good.

-Lucy made me eat a cream puff when she got home (with the 3 other house guests.) It was yummy but not something I would normally have but after half a bottle of wine-normal changes.

-Passed out in Chloe’s bed.

Sunday
- Chloe, Lucy and I took a walking tour of the city. I ended up getting a new wallet in Hayes Valley (?) which was good since I needed to replace the stolen one. 50 dollars though? It is yellow and sporty…

-We had lunch on the pier at a restaurant named Sinbad’s-not the comedian’s but the sailor-where we were the youngest people there by at least 25 years. The food was okay if expensive-but worth it to see the wax like figure of Sinbad complete with chest hair that looked like shaved pubic hair. (It could be in San Francisco.)

-We then topped the night off by staying in with pasta, wine, smokes and VH1 Sunday night reality. We learned plenty of new things from why Scott Baio is Single (he’s an ass) as well as new terms of endearment from the gaggle of young ladies questing to win Brett Michael’s heart (Circus tits is a reference to a bad boob job).

Monday
-The girls had to work so I slept in while debating a game plan. I spent some quality time in their neighborhood with the local coffee shop, grocer, and the general hippiness of the City.

-I eventually walked down to the Castro (The Gay Mecca) and spent time looking through book stores and coffee shops and clothing stores. I bought a slew of new books because that’s what I do.

-The girls met me after work for a drink or 4 down in the Castro. We had yummy burgers and conversation and pinball as the night went on. I even made a fun choice for myself that I was actually proud of. (More on that later.)

-Chloe headed off to see Lennon after cocktails and Lucy and I went off for our own nightcap in Haight Ashbury. It was nice to get some one on one time and we talked about boys and romance and blogs and other fine points of our lives.

Tuesday
-I had a hard time sleeping for some reason and made myself get all freaked out by watching ’28 Days Later’ till the wee hours. So I was a bit slow and frumpy that morning. But I did decide it was time to get back to basics and coloured my hair as well as caught up on ‘Young and The Restless’. (Did you know they have NIA PEOPLES?)

-I then ended out to browse the neighborhood. I hit the coffee shop on the corner, the hair dresser down the way, and the thrift stores along Haight. It was amazing to feel so capable and able in the City.

-I took the bus myself (yeah me) and met with Chloe in Hayes Valley for Happy Hour. Lucy and Lennon joined us as we drank with dogs and boys. I was feeling pretty good so I ended up taking on the challenge of the Boot. (The Boot is a glass boot filled with beer. It is insanely yummy but thank God I didn’t try and drink one alone.)

Wednesday
-I was a bit hung over (I blame the footwear) as I packed my bags in prep for heading home. After the Great Airplane Fiasco I was going to go all Boy Scout in my preparedness and made quick work of the chores. (Though I did curse myself for buying books that were HEAVY).

-I met Chloe at her office (yeah bus!), dropping off my bags and we made our way to North Beach for lunch. We almost stopped in at City Lights to pay respects to our first visit to San Francisco but instead had a long Italian lunch.

-Lucy and I had coffee around the way from her office and smoked a couple of cigarettes before she was called back to work. I then made my way to a HUGE Old Navy and bought a sweatshirt because in my haste packing I didn’t realize that San Francisco was going to be COLDER THAN HELL.

-I decided to head to the airport early and met up with Chloe (And Lennon joined us too) to get my bags and grab a cab. Unfortunately two showed up so I left Chloe and Lennon to deal with that awkwardness.

-I made it to the airport two hours early and breezed through check-in and security. Which then meant my flight had to be TWO HOURS late which sucked since Kaylee was picking up at the airport. But I did make it home in one piece and ever better for it.

I’m glad that I made the trek and even more glad that Chloe and Lucy were such great hosts. And while there aren’t a lot of great photos (Keyword is great) it’s the memories I love. But not as much as I will love my next trip to the City-which should be sooner than later.
