OOC POST

This is Joel's OOC post/How's My Driving post. I'm gonna fill this up with links and info about MST3k and Joel in a little bit - including some links to really good Joel-centric episodes.

Otherwise, feel free to comment here or IM me at KurumiRP if you have any comments, questions, or critiques. This is my first time playing Joel and my second time playing a mellowed out character, so I'd love input. (It's pretty depressing when your "staple" RP character is one like Bonecrusher or the Joker XD)

There are a lot of really good Mike Nelson episodes out there too, but since I'm playing Joel, I figured you guys would rather see ones with him in it. (If you get interested, The Touch of Satan is possibly my favorite Mike-era MST. Catchphrase: "This is where my tongue lives.") For the purposes of my own laziness, I'm only hooking you guys up with the first segment - most of these have 10 parts, all easily found on Youtube.

Pod People - Not to be mistaken for Invasion of the Body-Snatchers. In this movie, there's an alien that looks kind of like an elephant that does magic stuff including making toys dance and killing people.

Herculese vs. the Moon Men - This episode is special because of the DEEP HURTING that takes place in it. Trust me, guys, if you want to see how evil the Mads really are - well, this episode shows it off.

Santa Claus Conquers the Martians - For those of you who enjoy Christmas so much you want to watch bad movies about aliens trying to kidnap Santa. This is definitely a great episode and one of the funniest.

MANOS: Hands of Fate - I found a playlist for this one because it's just so horrible I feel like you guys might not try to find the next parts. Manos is widely considered the worst movie ever aired on MST3K. Since MST3K is a show all about horrible movies, you can imagine this is an honor. This is also one of the best episodes of MST3K, because the riffing comes so damned easy.

The Ever Expanding OOC "About Joel" Post & FAQ!

Main Heads-Up
Joel's probably one of the most laid-back guys you (or your characters) will ever meet! He treats pretty much everything with a mellow, relaxed attitude and is perfectly okay with his lot in life. Well, not perfectly, but he's content enough to not be upset about being stuck in space.

The Canon of MST3k & Joel
MST3k is pretty easygoing, so far as canon/timelines go. As a matter of fact, the boxsets of MST available aren't even in order - they consist of a combination of older & newer episodes, as well as ones with either Mike or Joel. There are only a few episodes that really have any impact in the Joel era of MST, and those are Rocketship X-M, which is TV's Frank's first appearance (as well as the replacement of Tom's voice actor), and Mitchell, where Joel leaves the S.O.L. and Mike takes his place.

So, for the sake of my own sanity (I'm slowly working through the MST episodes between these two episodes, but it's slow going XD), I'm going to be throwing out pretty much every episode between these two episodes in random. One entry might talk about Pod People, but then the next might refer to Catalina Caper. Basically, TV listings don't count to me. If one of your characters mentions an MST that Joel hasn't "seen" yet in the series, I'll make it so he has. If it's a Mike MST, he'll just kind of laugh and say "okay, sure."

So, About That 4th-Walling...
Don't worry, superheroes/characters with important secrets/etc.; though Joel DID grow up on comics like Superman, Batman, Hulk, etc., if he goes back in his memory to try and remember who their secret identities were... Well, he'll find that he can't remember. Same goes for any western fandom. How curious! It must be the Mads, oh well.

That being said - if you want to have your characters know about MST, let them. Joel's really quite fine with knowing that people know him; it's not an issue for him. Like I said, he's really laid-back. The only thing I ask is that you don't mention Mitchell and the events within, since that's like, the only major canon event for him.

Hobbies
Joel loves to tinker with stuff. He built his robot pals out of random parts on the S.O.L. (the parts that controlled when the movies started and stopped, to be exact), and he's known for making cute little inventions. As a matter of fact, the Mads and him have invention exchanges to try and one-up each other.

Because of this (and the fact that he's a gigantic geek), if your character is technologically savvy in any way/shape/form (or, say, a giant robot), he'll be so in to babbling about whatever with them. (I, on the other hand, am not so technologically savvy, so if I accidently screw up, please just kind of... poke me so I know XD)

Worldhopping and the Like
Joel is technically stuck on the S.O.L. permanently. That being said, if one of your characters wants to visit - or if they want Joel to visit - if they/he can get a world-hop, he'll be down with it.

If they come to visit him, though, don't expect to see any of the 'bots - all of them are appable, so aside from random noises and shouts, I'm gonna keep them largely out of the picture.

Social Interaction
Joel's been stuck in space for a while now, so... He's a little off when it comes to talking to people who aren't mad scientists or dorky robots. If he acts a little awkward or kind of goes "..." over something, feel free to let your characters point it out. His social awkwardness is for everyone to tease him about!

Now then, if you have any questions about Joker, ask me~! My AIM is "Kurumi RP", or post here! :)
