So, DragonCon is upon us...so soon...so very soon.
I'm really looking forward to it. Got a new job just in time, so I'll have some spending money...we've already been gearing up with supplies and what not.
What I'm really looking forward to is hanging out with everyone I haven't gotten to in a long time.
Of course all of my geeky friends in the Atlanta area, some of whom I get to see more than others...and one who moved here from Canada recently but I never get to see...you know who you are!!! ;p
My friends coming up from Tampa. A trio I got to see briefly last year, but hopefully will be spending more time with this year.
Of course my best friend from waaaaaaaaaay back. My buddy Chris who I went to Middle School and High School with, will be back this year to once again join in the revelry.
So it'll be great to see everyone and get to party again, since I am free from behind the turntables this year.
Sadly though, I still miss seeing a lot of people. There's some people I know won't be making it from out of state. Which sucks...but I can understand the difficulty of travel.
Saddest of all, I won't be seeing some faces who actually aren't that far away.
I grew up in a place called Warner Robins, Georgia. Though it isn't a busy metropolis, it holds many many fond memories. Mostly from the people I was with there.
I never get to see those people anymore...except for those who moved here. They used to make the trek up to DragonCon like it was a pilgrimage. I know...I used to do it with them. I miss a lot of the friends from Macon / Warner Robins.
One of the ones I miss the most is my cousin Robbie.
When I moved we tried to keep touch, but it seemed things changed between us. We used to be like brothers.
I don't know what happened, really...I tried to call several times last year, and sent a couple of e-mails...but I could never reach him. When I went home for the holidays to see my parents they had told me he had gotten married. I couldn't hear it from him. That hurt. I still don't know what he's up too. I stopped calling and e-mailing quite a while ago. I figured he didn't want to talk to me anymore.
Still, DragonCon always reminds me of my cousin Rob, more a brother to me than a cousin, and all the fun geeky things we used to do.
Whenever you are Rob, this Con's for you.
