Made it to New Orleans--moved in and everything.

My apartment is really nice. The layout is weird, and kind of lacking solid walls, but it works. Perhaps pictures later.

Unfortunately, the roof-top pool is in a bad way from the hurricane. a very bad way. The deck is gone. the cabana has water damage, and the pool is empty and there is no deck to connect them. kinda bummed.

But the city is a lot worse than I thought it would be. I'm in the central business district, right next to the french quarter, and it's got a lot of damage. A lot of stores are still closed and don't look like they're gonna open. High-rises are missing lots of windows still.

And this is the area that got the least damage and is most likely to rebuild. Kinda sad.

But I still really like the city. Even crappy places to eat taste good. You can see a lot on foot, but traffic isn't so bad that you can't drive (though the lack of street signs makes it interesting).

I start work on Monday, so hopefully I'll be totally settled by then. The apartment came with almost everything--plates, towels, etc--so stocking it was a lot easier than my last place.

Met one of the other interns and her fiance. Pretty nice. She's from tech. At least I'll have someone to walk to work with.

yay walking to work!

Though my rental car is pretty sweet. It's a red cobalt. two door. very zippy. me gusta.

So far it hasn't hit me that I'm basically alone in a big city. hmm. I'm sure the missing people will start anytime. but at least I won't be in BFE texas when that happens.

But I have no real internet, so I'm using tmobil hotspot at starbucks. I should be on my way and get work done.
