I've never been to a gaming convention before. That was fun.
There were, in theory, about 1,000 people who attended, but the number felt much smaller. This is because I'm used to people walking around and socializing at furry conventions. Here, people spent hours at a time at game tables playing games of various types. There were board games, card games, "war gamging" type games that were played on the floor with a mockup of a city of a forest, and of course, video and computer games. Oh yeah, there were LARPs, too. Pictures of all this will be forthcoming.
Here are some of the games I remember:
- Fluxx
- Apples to Apples
- Tech Support (card game in which you try to find the "guru")
- Bar Quest (I want to play this with real beer)
- Soulcalibur
- DDR
- The Kevin and Kell RPG. I did not get a chance to play this, but I'm hoping there will be a game at the next Anthrocon.
As far as a furry presence,
tchall was able to make it, and Bill Holbrook was there as a dealer. I also got to meet John Lotshaw, creator of the
Accidental Centaurs comic. He's not furry, but he's working on that part. :-)
In other con news, I was responsible for killing the bottle of
Jameson that the bar had. That was a first for me!
Since it is such a short drive away, I think I will be attending the next DexCon. Apparently
Double Exposure runs a number of events each year, and their next event will be sometime in January. I'll be sure to post more about it as information becomes available.
