Fic: Standard Deviation, Chapter 4B

May 16, 2012 21:37

Author's Notes: When I wrote this, I didn't anticipate the chapter being this long. I chose the best place I could to break it up into two parts, but it's still a little jarring. Apologies for this - there wasn't much I could do. Onwards with the end of the story!

Disclaimer: Nope. Still not mine. Boo.

Hee! No worries - it happens. I've done that a few times where I'm all, "Wut? How the hell did I miss the end of the story," when I start wondering why I haven't seen any posts in the recent past. Kind of makes you *faceplam* though, doesn't it?

Anyway, I'm happy this worked for you. I admit that I was was cringing through the opening chapters (I can tell I wrote this a while back now), but I wound up just rolling with it because I liked the conversation between Jim and Pike so much that I just said, "Fuck it," and posted it.

The OIS thing was initially conceived as a relationship building moment between Pike, McCoy and Jim, but it's turned into an actual plot point that will eventually be written into part of a larger arc. So yeah. That whole incident? It'll be back, probably in a couple of different fics. I'm just not telling you which ones. Yes, I know. I'm an evil bitch and proud of it. ;)

Like you, I really hate seeing law enforcement injured or killed, and I totally feel for the two officers who are now recovering from their injuries. I wish them well. Seriously, it's that kind of shit that just makes me shake my head. Minnesota has had a rash of violence over the past few years against both police and civilian alike, and it honestly makes me sick. The latest incident was the death of a five year old boy, who was shot and killed while he lay on his couch in his house. What really pissed me off was that he was collateral damage in an ongoing dispute between someone in his house and the shooters. It's so senseless. I don't understand it. And don't even get me started on the police that have been killed in this state over the past three years...

Anyway, I had to write something totally cracky after posting this to appease my muses to not drop any further into angst-ville. I'll be tottering back to that now, thank you very much. Thanks for such a lovely comment, and I'm glad you liked it!
