So, Monday night I went up to the Uptown Theater in KC to see a metal show. And I had a really good time.
The first band, High On Fire, did pretty decent.
The second band, Converge, was...okay. I mean, the drummer, bassist, and guitar player were decent. The singer? Sucked ass. Lots of ass. No one could ever understand what he was screaming. It sounded like the same word over and over again on every song, and that word was some sort of mashup between "rock" and "fuck". No one that I asked could figure out what the hell he was saying.
The third band was Mastodon. Admittedly, I'd never heard Mastodon before, so I wasn't sure what to think going in. They ended up being the best band at the show. I'm probably going to buy their new album before the end of the week.
And then it was Dethklok. They put on a really good show, also. Decent sound, nice visuals, and had some comedy mixed in with all the music, so it was like watching an hour or so long episode of the TV show. All in all, I'd go again. Hell, I'd go just to see Mastodon OR Dethklok.
