Song of the Week...Week Four

Nov 24, 2007 23:01

Since we are entering the holiday season, for the next few weeks my song choice will be Christmas songs.  The video for this week may not be as impressive as others, but it is about the music!  Hope you like the selection.

LYRICS

All my life, I tried to do what's right.

First star I see tonight,

Make my wish come true.
Why can't we join hands around one tree?

Let live and let it be.
Make Christmas last forever.

When Santa's flying in his magic sleigh,
Goes all around the world in just a day.
From the North Pole to the Southern tip,
He makes his trip with love to give away. Hear him say,

"It's Christmas, all over the world tonight.
It's Christmas, all over the world."

All my life, I learned if I was good,

Did everything I should,

My dreams would all come true.
I can see a special time when we join hands around one tree,
And make Christmas last forever.

When Santa's flying in his magic sleigh,
Goes all around the world in just a day.
From the North Pole to the Southern tip,
He makes his trip with love to give away. Hear him say,

"It's Christmas, all over the world tonight.
It's Christmas, all over the world."

HISTORY

It’s Christmas All Over the World, was the end-credits ballad featured in the Alexander and IIya Salklind Production Santa Claus: The Movie, released in November 1985 by Tri-Star Pictures.

The music and lyrics are by Bill House and John Hobbs. The recording of the song was produced by Keith Olsen for Pogologo Corporation, and sung by Sheena Easton.

REASON

I know the video for this song is not real impressive, but I wanted the Sheena Easton version of it rather than the New Edition version.  When the movie came out I was 16.  This song played at then end of the movie and I remembered it.  I had it on a cassette of Christmas songs, but had been unable to find it on a CD.  Then, through the power of the internet, I was able to track it down on Limewire.

For the most part, I am pretty traditional when it comes to the Christmas songs that I like.  This is one of the few ‘newer’ classics that I enjoy.  I debated on whether or not to do this one first, since it is a bit of a downer, but most of the songs I have selected for the next few weeks are by female vocalists, so I knew I had to start with one in order to break things up a bit.

Enjoy…and ‘tis the season!
