Films I Haven't Seen, Films That Might Not Exist, Tea, Winter and Tiny Birds
Films which look almost relevant to my interests but which I am not really sure about somehow:
- Sylvia Scarlett. it might potentially be a bit much on the She's Crossdressing And It's Funny side or otherwise miss the mark I'm looking for here; from just reading about it I can't quite make up my mind. OK, I'm mostly only even curious because from some of the screencaps I've seen Katherine Hepburn looks pretty amazing as Sylvester, and because she had that sort of amazing ambiguity which deserved to be played up more on screen.
- Victor/Victoria or Viktor und Viktoria. The former is based on the latter but they sound like quite different beasts. The latter was filmed in 1933 in Germany, and is sort of interesting to me in that respect. Victor/Victoria is sort of the same idea but with a lot more playing on sexuality, I think... I really don't know. About the basic concept, I mean.
To be quite honest I would be interested in films that sounded less comedy about the whole thing, but will settle for women looking good in suits failing that. But really! There are a lot of other things I want from portrayals of crossdressing in films. I don't know if what I want is out there. I would like to think it is and one day I'll fall over the secret stash of awesome. Films where women crossdress or are gloriously ambiguous and it's not about how they're trying to be men and sort of failing? I do wonder. (Oh, I know what I'd love. Some sort of not-for-laughs film about one of the many people back through history born as women who lived as men. That'd be pretty awesome. Some of them have really interesting stories.)
Maybe I'm just grumpy. I've been told I do pull some very alarming grumpy faces at the breakfast table, presumably directed at the cruelness of the world in general and mornings in particular. Anyway! I'm off to look for some sort of image to use as a journal header. This may be tricky. Something involving Rei? Something involving Oscar? Something involving Marlene Dietrich? Something else altogether? I just don't know!

- Yesterday we bought tea. Behold:
Second trip to Sibyllans, which is one of the old tea and coffee shops in Stockholm, with a definite aura of Tradition and a belief in the importance of Real Money. The first time I think we panicked a bit in the face of so much tea and bought really random stuff, though we did discover the wonder that is Sir Williams tea (earl grey with lapsang souchong), but this time we did better! A Much Bigger bag of the aforementioned, a standard earl grey, and the "royal" earl grey which has other bits and pieces in it which escape me offhand. Also black tea with orange peel. I don't know why I'm showing you my tea habit in such detail. Sorry. As horrible addictions go I'm sure it could be a whole lot worse, though.
- Yesterday morning it was still about -12. This morning it's +2, and tiny birds are making hopeful noises all over the place. I have seen the weather forecast for the weekend, though, and fear they may be sadly mistaken. Also, while we're on the topic, uminohikari wished for photos of small fluffy birds such as hang around outside our window:
Great tits (snigger at will, sure, I know you want to)! Or talgoxar, if you want to be Swedish about it. There is a blue tit (blåmes?) that hangs out there too, but no photo of that one - it doesn't sit still long enough. And it isn't very fluffy anyway.
- On Wednesday I went down to the harbour. There sure is ice.
This way to Finland, or something. You can see the deep-water channel markers in the second photo.
