Resolutions

Yes, yes, I know this is dull - but necessary.

When 2005 was but the squarking bastard child of 2004, I posted this - givemethegun's first set of LJ New Year Resolutions. Many of which are the same this year, I'm afraid. But two I managed to accomplish, so it's at least a step in the right direction.

Five personally significant events of 2005:

1. Two close friends died.
2. I lost another close friend through poor regulation of behaviour.
3. I got a job, and stuck at it against all odds (take a look at me, now).
4. Three significant visitations/holidays throughout the year, compounding excellent friendships made. 2005, with all its faults, was actually quite a social year for me. Although on the flipside there were also many heated and bitter arguements and fallings-out over stupid issues.
5. I fell in love, which was probably the last thing I'd ever expect to have done.

Five things that 2005 taught me:

1. Okay - don't puke - but no matter how shitty things get, nothing is insurmountable with the support of brilliant people. Whenever I'm lacking in spirit of adventure, I look to Mars. Whenever I need to get my shit together and be tough, I look to Maria. Whenever I feel lacking in family support, I recognise my real family as the most incredible network of friends. I'm truly blessed.
2. You must take great risks to reap great rewards.
3. That there is a future, and it may or may not contain robots.
4. The person you could actually spend the rest of your life with could be right underneath your nose. It doesn't matter if he lives on the other side of the planet - and in America, of all places - or that the challenge to be with such a person is made to seem impossible (logicstically, socially, etc). If it can be, and it should be, it will be.
5. White chocolate still makes me vomit.

Five things I want to do in 2006:

1. *sigh* Get fit, for fuck's sake.
2. *sigh* Quit smoking, for fuck's sake.
3. Be more social, artistic, brave, assertive, a better person, blah blah.
4. Enjoy a white christmas, complete with kitten in a box under the tree.
5. Meet a whole bunch of people from my Flist when I go to the States.

Five things I don't want to do in 2006:

1. Get my back-up so easily/be so damned angry/aggressive/self-righteous when dealing with (people I consider to be) idiots.
2. Be such a crappy friend - I'm lax in communications at the best of times, and am often neglectful of the people who are important to me.
3. Be so creatively lazy, or just lazy in general.
4. Lose any more friends, either to death or by my own stupid mouth.
5. Let my negatively lead me down any dangerous paths.

I don't think I've ever answered a meme with such a severe lack of humour. What a bunch 'o' schmultz.
