SUMMARY: At Jawoon High School couple rings are the latest fad, but the most important thing is the finger the ring is on. If two people wear the same ring on their right middle fingers, it symbolizes friendship. If a person were to wear a ring on their right ring finger it means they’re single. And if two people wear the same ring on their left middle fingers it means they are a couple. So how is it that the popular and known gentleman, Choi Minho, and a random underclassman, Lee Taemin, have identical rings?
A/N: Sorry it took me so long to update this one. I was at a block for a little bit. I might have to go back and read the manga again. I'm forgetting what happened in it. haha. This update is kind of short and sucky. Sorry. And no spots for this one. I'm too lazy to do them right now. haha. MIANHE!
CHAPTER FOUR
“So did you get back your ring? Why do you even have a couple ring?” Gwiboon asks me the moment I return to class and take my seat. She was currently sitting on Kikwang’s lap while the latter talked to his group of friends oblivious to his girlfriend.
“Yeah,” I hold up my hand, “And it’s not a couple ring. It’s just a ring that I thought was nice when I saw it so I bought it.”
“But how is it that your ring matches that Taemin kid’s ring?”
“I don’t know. I’m just glad that I have my ring back.”
“Baby,” Kikwang shakes the girl in his lap and she turns to face him, placing a kiss on his cheek.
“Yes?”
“You should probably go to your seat.”
“But I am in my seat.”
“Well as much as I love you sitting on my lap, I don’t think our teacher would appreciate it.”
“Aw.”
“Don’t worry, you can sit on my lap all you want tonight.”
“I like the sound of that.”
“Gross. Like we need to know what you two do in the bedroom,” I say, picking up on the subtle hint. I turn my attention to my notebook and flip it open to a blank page.
“Get your mind out of the gutter Minho. We weren’t talking about that,” Gwiboon punched my arm, but I barely even feel it.
“You forget who you’re talking, I know you better than you know yourself. And unfortunately we don’t have any secrets.”
“Yah!” she punches my arm again.
“What do you mean no secrets?” Kikwang raises his eyebrows at me.
“Don’t worry man, it’s all good. More than I would like to know, but all good. She’s very… um… what’s the right word,” I tap my chin with my index finger, “Satisfied? Yeah, I guess that will have to do.”
“You seriously tell him everything about us baby?” Kikwang is staring at his girlfriend now, shock on his face.
“He’s my best friend baby. We don’t have any secrets. We just naturally share everything that happens to us. That’s what happens when you’ve known someone since you’ve been born. Don’t you talk about everything with Yoseob?”
“Um, no. There are just some things we prefer to keep to ourselves, like what we do with our girlfriends.”
“Oh, maybe it’s a boy thing then.”
“YAH!” I yell and shoot Gwiboon a glare, “What am I?”
“Oh you don’t count Minho,” she says nonchalantly.
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“I don’t see you as a boy.”
“What?!”
“Huh?”
“If you don’t see me as a boy, then what do you see me as?”
“I just see you as Minho.”
“Geez, thanks Gwiboonie. I love you too,” I roll my eyes and go back to my notebook.
“Come on babe, you better get back to your seat. Class is going to start any second now.”
“Fine,” I watch Gwiboon get off Kikwang’s lap and make her way to her seat a few desks away out of the corner of my eye. She quickly strikes up a conversation with the girls sitting around her.
It’s about a minute before our teacher walks in and a pop quiz is handed out. Thank goodness I studied more than usual last night, it was the only way to take my mind off that Taemin kid. Why he was on my mind in the first place was beyond me. Ugh, focus Minho, you only have another eight minutes for this quiz and you haven’t even looked at the questions yet. Stupid Lee Taemin, even when he’s not in the room he still distracts me.
*~*
“So you going to join in the game after school today?” Kikwang asks me as we take our seats at our usual table for lunch. There was an impromptu soccer game happening after school today against the school just a few streets over from us.
“I don’t know,” I shrug, shoving food into my mouth.
“Come on man. I’ve seen you play before, we could really use you on the team. We have to beat these guys. They creamed us last week and I can’t let that happen again. And that stupid Eunhyuk won’t let me forget about it. But I figure that if you help us out this time, we can cream them. So what do you say man? Be our secret weapon?”
“Let me think about it. I have things I need to do today.”
“Minho, we all know that you’re going to go home and study like you always do. Come on help them out with the soccer game. You used to love playing soccer when we were growing up. I don’t know what happened,” Gwiboon says to me.
“Fine. I won’t win anyways, it’s two against one.”
“You made the right choice,” Gwiboon pats my arm and goes back to her food, “Like I said before all work and no play makes Minho a dull dull boy. I’m sure your admirers will love to see you playing soccer. Just another talent to add to that long list that I’m sure they’ve already made.”
“Whatever Gwiboon,” I look up and scan the cafeteria, not really knowing what I was looking for. I just had the sudden urge to look around me. That’s when my eyes land on him. He’s sitting clear across the room, surrounded by their friends as they talk animatedly and laugh with one another.
“So Minho, you never told me what happened when you went to get your ring back,” Gwiboon’s voice shakes me from the trance I was in.
“Nothing really to tell,” I reply, turning to her, “I went there, got my ring back, and then I came back to class. That’s it.”
“Then why are you staring at him?” she motions to Taemin’s table.
“I wasn’t staring at him.”
“You forget who you’re talking to Minho, you can’t lie to me. I know you better than you know yourself.”
“Whatever, I wasn’t staring at him though. I was merely looking around the cafeteria.”
“That little bit of drool at the corner of your mouth tells me otherwise,” she wipes the corner of my mouth with her thumb and I swat it away.
“I’m drooling because I’m eating Gwiboon.”
“Yeah, meanwhile you haven’t touched your food since you spotted him,” she points down to my lunchbox that is still half full.
“Will you just drop it already,” I huff and start shoveling food in my mouth again.
“Aw, you’re so cute,” she pinches my cheek, “My little Minho has his first crush and look he’s blushing now!”
“Stop it Gwiboon,” I say around a mouthful of food.
“Come on, there’s nothing wrong with having a crush.”
“I don’t have a crush.”
“Yes you do. And who cares if it’s a boy. I have to admit that he’s awfully pretty for a boy. Probably the only other person in school who can rival me in the looks department. You know if I were to put him in a skirt and do his make up, he’d make one hot ass girl. Prettier than a lot girls in our school. Well except for me now.”
“Gwiboon?”
“Hm?”
“Shut up.”
“YAH!” she slaps my arm. Damnit, she sure was hitting me a lot today. Not that it hurt, but she was hitting me more than usual.
“What? You were babbling.”
“Whatever,” she waves off my remark, “So you have a crush on Taemin eh? I approve.”
“For the last time, I don’t have a crush on him. He just gets under my skin.”
“Oh I’m sure you want him under you alright,” she wiggles her eyebrows at me.
“Yah, you get your mind out of the gutter,” I playfully push the side of her head and she slaps my arm again, “Will you stop hitting me!”
“Stop being stupid and just admit that you like Taemin.”
“Read my lips,” I lean into her, “I. Don’t. Like. Taemin.”
“Yeah and I’m not dating Kikwang,” she rolls her eyes and Kikwang turns to us after hearing his name.
“What about me?” he asks, looking from me to his girlfriend.
“Nothing sweetie, just keep talking to Yoseob,” she pats his cheek and gives it a peck. He shrugs and goes back to talking to his best friend about the soccer game we were going to be playing this afternoon. Why did I agree to participate again? “Oh I wonder if Taemin will come to the game. I’m sure you’d love to see him front and center cheering his cute little butt off for you.”
“Let it go Gwiboon.”
“Not until you admit it.”
“There’s nothing for me to admit.”
“Denial!”
“Stop it. Can we talk about something else?”
“You’re such a prude sometimes. I don’t see what the big deal is about admitting you have a crush. I already said I don’t mind that it’s a boy. I think you two would be adorable together actually. You know what I’m going to do you for you?”
“Please don’t say it,” I rub my forehead with my hand, already knowing what she’s going to say next.
“I’m going to find out everything I can about him. First off, we need to find out if he’s dating anyone or even if he swings that way.”
“Gwiboon,” I grab her shoulders and force her to face me, “Please don’t do this. I already told you that I don’t have a crush on him. So please, whatever you have cooking in that pretty little head of yours, don’t do it.”
She’s just staring at me and I cock my head to the side to see if there’s any sign that she heard what I just said. I almost fall back when she suddenly shoots up from her chair, “Oh Luna! Just the girl I want to see. I have a couple questions for you!” She rushes over to the other girl, linking arms with her as they walk away. I guess she didn’t hear a word I just said. Why am I still friends with her anyways?
