CHAPTER SEVEN
MINHO POV
He wasn’t doing anything. He was just sitting there, not moving. I don’t even think he was breathing. Maybe I shouldn’t have kissed him. He obviously didn’t want to kiss me. Damn. I probably just ruined my chances with him. I quickly pull away from him and stand up.
“Sorry,” I mumble under my breath, “I shouldn’t have done that. You probably think I’m some creep now or something. I’m sorry. Can we just pretend like that never happened? We’re still friends right? Sorry.”
He’s still not moving or anything. Maybe I should just go in the house now. Save us both from the awkwardness and humiliation. I turn and reach for the doorknob, when he suddenly grabs my hand. I look down and he’s staring up at me.
“I should be the one apologizing to you,” he says, standing up from his spot. He tugs on my arm and I turn my body so that I’m facing him.
“For what? I’m the one who kissed you out of no where. I should have asked or something first. Or thought before I did it. I just thought that the timing was right and you wanted me to, but obviously you didn’t. And I feel like a complete jerk now. So I should be the one who is apologizing to you.”
I stop in the middle of my long-winded speech when he places his index fingers on my lips, “You’re rambling.”
“I’m sorry,” I say around his finger.
“Stop saying that. You have nothing to apologize for.”
“Huh?”
“I did want to kiss you, just that you caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting our first kiss to happen on our first date.”
“I’m-” but I’m unable to finish my sentence because his lips are pressed to mine. I gently close my eyes and enjoy the feeling of our first kiss. The earlier one doesn’t count. I bring my hands up to rest on his hips, tugging him forward a bit so that we’re both not having to lean in so much. His hands come up to rest on my arms.
He pulls away from the kiss first, “That’s what should have happened.”
“I…”
“If you say you’re sorry one more time, I’m going to leave.”
“I wasn’t going to say that. I was just going to say that I’m glad that we redid the kiss. I like the second one so much more than the first one. Can the first one not count?”
“Of course it counts.”
“But it was awkward and you didn’t kiss me back.”
“I was in shock.”
“The second kiss was perfect.”
“I don’t want the memory of our first kiss to be perfect. I like that it was one-sided and awkward. It gives our relationship character.”
“So we’re in a relationship now?”
“Are we not?”
“I’m just asking.”
“Well are we or aren’t we?”
“I didn’t ask you to be my boyfriend and you didn’t ask me to be your boyfriend.”
“True. So what are we?”
“We’re taking it slow. I hope you don’t mind. I mean I know that it doesn’t make sense for me to say that since we just shared our first AND second kiss. But I’m still a little broken from my last relationship.”
“It’s okay. We can take it slow. There’s no need to rush when it comes to labeling what we have between us. All that matters is that we enjoy spending time together.”
“Going on dates. Otherwise, we’d just be friends and I don’t want to be moving that slow. I want us to be a little more than friends.”
“Okay. We can go on dates.”
“Geez, try to contain your excitement now,” I say with sarcasm.
“My bad. Of course I want to go on more dates with you,” he wraps his arms loosely around my neck, “You’re kind of cute.”
“Is that all I am? A pretty face?”
“A pretty face with very kissable lips,” he gives me a quick peck on the lips and I’m about to pull him back for another one when his phone goes off, “Sorry.”
“It’s okay,” I pull him closer to me anyways, but his arms keep our bodies from fully pressing into one another. I wait patiently while he reads the text and responds to it.
“Sorry, it was Key. He wanted to know if I was going to be home for dinner or not.”
I lift up my arm and glance at my watch. It was getting close to dinner time and I guess I couldn’t really hog him for the whole day. His brother did just get discharged from the hospital. But I didn’t want our date to end.
“I guess you better get going home then? I’ve been hogging you all day and if I want to get on Taemin’s good side, I better send you home now.”
“No rush,” he tells me.
“Yeah, well I’m afraid if you stay here any longer, I won’t send you home at all. And then your brother will for sure hate me.”
“Taemin doesn’t hate you.”
“I’m definitely not my favorite.”
“He’s not good with strangers.”
“That’s good.”
“But don’t worry. He just needs to warm up to you.”
“So until then, I don’t want to get on his bad side. You better go.”
“You’re seriously trying to get rid of me aren’t you? I see how it is. See if I agree to go on a second date with you,” he turns to leave, but I pull him back to me. I rest my chin on his shoulder.
“Don’t be like that. You know I want you to stay, but like I said if you stay any longer, you might never go home,” I whisper in his ear before placing a soft kiss on his cheek.
ONEW POV
On the drive home, I kept on bringing my hand up to touch my cheek and my lips. I still was in shock that I had kissed Minho and he kissed me back. It was definitely a nice feeling to have his lips on mine. I shook my head to clear my thoughts, it probably wasn’t the best idea for me to be getting lost in my thoughts while I was driving. Thank goodness I didn’t live too far from him.
I quickly park my car in the driveway next to Key’s and make my way inside. I carried the box of cookies Minho and I had picked up earlier in our date just for Taemin. He had insisted we get something for him since he wasn’t able to join us today. I told him it wasn’t necessary since Key no doubt hopped him up on sweets and he was never going to get to bed tonight.
“Hyung!” Taemin yells the moment I walk in the door, “You’re home! Finally!”
“Hi Minnie,” I ruffle his hair and walk to the kitchen where I know Key is cooking dinner at the moment.
“You’re home,” Key says, looking over his shoulder at me before turning back to the food, “I didn’t think you’d be back so soon. You didn’t respond to my text.”
“I was about to come home when you texted, so I didn’t see the point,” I go over to see what he’s cooking.
“So I want details!”
“Hyung!” Taemin grabs my hand and starts to tug on it, “Play with me! I haven’t seen you all day!”
“In a second Minnie, I’m talking to Key okay? Why don’t you go set up whatever game you want to play with and then call me when it’s ready?”
“Okay!” he smiles up at me and then runs to the living room. I’m guessing he’s going to set up the latest video game he got or something like that. I figure I have a good five minutes to talk to Key.
“So how did it go?” he asks me.
“I had a great time. I really like him Key,” I can’t help the blush starting to pool on my face.
“Yeah?”
“Yeah.”
“What did you two do?”
“We went to the park. Walked around and talked. Then went to get something to eat. He held my hand and tapped something in Morse code on it.”
“Aw, how cute. What did he say?”
“I dunno. He didn’t tell me.”
“What else do you do?”
“We went to a movie and then I took him home.”
“And?”
“And what?”
“Did he kiss you?”
I turn away from Key now that my cheeks are burning and I know they are probably a deep shade of red now.
“Omo! He did!”
“Shh,” I hold my finger up to my mouth, “I don’t want Taemin to know.”
“Like it makes a difference. He already knows you’re gay. So what if he knows you kissed another guy? It’s part of being gay right?”
“Key!”
“What? He knows you’re gay right?”
“Of course he knows. But he doesn’t know I’m dating. I don’t want to shock him or anything.”
“But you like Minho a lot right?”
“Yeah.”
“So I don’t see what the big deal is. If you like him a lot, might as well get the two used to one another.”
“Minho seems to think that Taemin doesn’t like him.”
“He’s probably right.”
“Key!”
“Well you know Minnie. He hasn’t been good with people since your parents died. It’s pretty much just you and me. He doesn’t like talking to anyone else. I think he’s afraid that he’ll lose them too.”
“I know, that’s why I don’t want him to know quite yet. I mean yes, I like Minho a lot but we’re taking it slow. And I’m glad he suggested it. I want to make sure that whatever is going on between us is real and not some fling before I let Minnie know.”
“Why does he want to take things slow?”
“He’s says he’s still a little broken from his last relationship.”
“Ah I see. Well I’m happy for you. I’m glad that you’re finally starting to let yourself be happy. I know you want to take care of Minnie the best way you can, but sometimes you forget to take care of yourself. And it worries me sometimes. But now that you have Minho, maybe he can help me watch over you a bit more.”
“HYUNG! It’s ready! Let’s play!” Taemin calls from the living room.
“Go ahead, I’ll be done with dinner in like 20 minutes.”
“Okay. Thanks again for watching him today. Oh,” and I hold up the box I forgot I was carrying, “And here’s dessert. Minho insisted we get something sweet for Taemin to celebrate his discharge and as an apology that he couldn’t come with us today.”
“And Minho thinks Minnie doesn’t like him. I’m sure he’ll love him once he finds out Minho bought him sweets.”
“You didn’t let him have any today right?”
“Of course not! He was just discharged. I made sure he ate healthy.”
“Good.”
“HYUNG! HURRY UP!”
“Coming!”
TAEMIN POV
"Hyung, where did you go today?" I asked my brother when he came to play with me.
"I hung out with Minho hyung today. You remember him right?"
"Minho hyung? The bug alien man?"
"Taemin, stop talking about people like that. He's a really nice person. He bought cookies for you."
"COOKIES? WHAT KIND?"
"Peanut butter. Your favorite kind."
"Can I have one pleeeeeeeeease?"
"No, dinner's almost ready. I don't want you ruining your appetite."
"Aww, Hyung...."
"Taemin, no."
"Fine."
"Come on boys, dinner's ready!" Key umma called from the kitchen.
KEY POV
I finished cooking dinner and set the table. "Come on boys, dinner's ready."
"Awww umma, I'm still full from the ice cream, hot dog, and popcorn we ate today!" Taemin said, not breaking his attention away from the video game.
"You fed him what?" Onew asks.
"Dinner! Minnie, turn the game off. I don't want you to complain that you're not hungry later." It was always hard to hide what I fed to Taemin because even though I told him not to tell Onew, he'd always let it slip.
"Ne umma!"
I scooped a little bit of rice on everyone's plates before piling on a generous portion of bulgogi and kimchi. "Eat up."
"So..." Onew says inbetween bites of food. "You keep telling me that I need to find happiness, but yet here you are always taking care of us. Sometimes I feel like you and I should just married already since we seem to be some kind of awkward married couple."
"Jinki appa and Key umma!" Taemin says as he nibbles on a piece of the bulgogi.
"You guys make me happy and I like taking care of you guys. I feel appreciated when I'm here. Although, I really should go home tonight. I feel like I haven't been home in a long time."
"Yeah, you should go home. I don't want to feel like we're taking advantage of you. But I'm pretty sure you'll be back here again soon."
"OOH! COOKIES!" Taemin's eyes light up when he notices the box of cookies that Onew brought home. "Hyung, can I have one. Pleeeeeeease?"
"Taemin, finish your dinner." Onew tells him before moving the cookies to a different location so that Taemin couldn't get to them. "Remember, what I said?"
"Ne hyung...."
"Are you going to let him have a cookie tonight?" I ask Onew before he sits back down to continue eating.
"No, he had too many sweets today. I don't want him to get any more cavities. Anyway, back to what we were talking about... Key, you need to find yourself a man."
"I know... but I love being with you guys."
"There's gotta be someone you're interested in right?"
"Nah, not really. I'm too busy with... stuff... that I don't have time to think about dating." Of course I was interested in someone, but I couldn't tell Onew that I was interested in Jonghyun.
"Well, I'm not trying to play match maker or anything but I hear that the other Kibum is single."
"Onew, are you crazy? I can't date someone who has the same exact name as me!" I object. "And why are you trying to get me to date all of a sudden? Are you trying to get rid of me?" I tease.
"No, of course not. Just saying that you should listen to your own advice."
"True... You know, I don't even remember how I ended up taking care of you guys so much."
"I guess it's when we dated a few years ago. We were best friends, we decided to date, but then we decided to stay best friends. I think it was when my parents passed that you decided that you wanted to be a part of the family, and we didn't object to it. In fact, I think it's the best thing that's happened to us in a really long time."
"Aww, I love you guys!"
"And we love you too!"
"Done!" Taemin says as he stands up off of his chair. "Can I have a cookie now?" He asks.
"Not tonight Taemin, I don't want you having too many sweets in one day. I'll pack some in your lunchbox to take to school tomorrow, though. Okay?" Onew tells Taemin.
"Okay hyung." Taemin goes back to the living room and starts playing the game again while Onew starts to tell me more about his date with Minho.
JONGHYUN POV
"Yo, Minho!" I say into the phone as soon as Minho picks it up.
"Yeah?"
"How was your date?"
"Why do you care all of a sudden?"
"I'm just wondering."
"It was nice."
"Is that all you're going to say?"
"Why? Do I need to go into full detail of what happened?"
"Well... no."
"Then there you go, it was nice."
"Someone's being grumpy."
"So what do you want Jjong?"
"What are you doing next Saturday?"
"Why?"
"Just answer the question."
"Nothing that I know of yet."
"Come over to my house. My parents aren't going to be home next weekend so Junho and I planned a party. Bring Onew with you, and tell him that if he wants that he can bring Key with him as well. This party is gonna be off the hook!"
"See Jjong, and this is why you're not doing well in class, you're always throwing parties, you need to start getting serious."
"And it's times like these where I thought we were bros. I mean come on! It's just one party!"
"Well... okay, I guess one party won't hurt."
"Okay good, so you'll be there then?"
"I guess."
"Awesome. See you at school then. I'll tell you more about the party later."
"Okay. Good night."
"Night."
When I hang up the phone I realized that now that Minho and Onew are dating, it kinda gives me an opportunity to see Key more often out of school. I really do hope that he comes to my party because then that way maybe I'll be able to get to know him a little better.
