I'm totally tearing up over here. I'm in the US, and I was on the phone with a friend when he was in Iraq a couple of years ago when the line went dead.

His convoy got hit with an IED.

He lived, but five members of his platoon didn't. He's ok, I mean if you count a concussion, PTSD and anxiety ok.

We really don't realize how lucky we truly are sometimes. Thanks for writing this. It really puts things in perspective especially this time of the year.

one of my best friend's husband is in afghanistan right now (and i am actually her gusband which is where i got the word from) and his convoy got hit yesterday. everyone is okay though. thank god.

i know what it's like. my dad got deployed the first time we went to iraq years and years ago. plus he fought in the gulf war as well. i still have a lot of friends in family who are active duty right now. now of which are in the middle east thank god. but my cousin just finished basic so i'm sure it's only a matter of time before he gets deployed.

The crazy thing is. Over here, we don't have a draft. I was talking to another guy here on LJ who grew up here, but was born in S. Korea and was seriously freaking out over that N. Korea air strike that happened a couple of weeks ago. I felt so bad for him, because unless he becomes an American citizen, (which he doesn't want to do), he's gotta go over there and do his time.

yeah... it's scary. my cousin who just finished basic was actually supposed to get stationed in korea, but then the air strike happened and now he's going to kansas instead.
