"Broil this brew,
thick as stew,
cook these bugs
through and through!"
"That is the stupidest spell I've ever heard."
"It's not a spell you nitwit! It's dinner." Shock didn't feel it necessary to tell Lock that she is practicing for her spells as well as making dinner. She stirs the beetle broth.
"Anyway, it's not like you're doing any better at your flame-conjuring!"
"Go to H-AAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!" A small squishy cannon-ball had fallen through the roof and onto Lock. The cannon-ball gets up and brushes himself off.
"BARREL. YOU- I'LL-" The two brothers chase eachother around the kitchen into their rooms and around Shock, who drops the hot soup onto the floor.
"NOW YOU'VE DONE IT YOU TWITS! LOOK!" She lashes out at her nearest brother, catching Lock by the hair. He screeches and falls back.
"You two stop this! Now I have to go back to Melfurnida's shop to get more beetle broth."
Lock and Barrel know that Shock's beetle soup is better than theirs, so they sit down at the table. But while she's gone, they amuse themselves with a small centipede that has had the misfortune of coming through a hole in their floor.
Shock takes the long way to the center of HalloweenTown. That will teach those two to mess with my dinner.
She comes into The Clearing. She gazes up at The Trees, 8 in total.
"Eight?!?! There were only seven when we went to visit Herbie!" She turns Tub around to look at each Tree.
"Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter, Valentine's, St. Patrick's, New Year's..." There was a Tree without a door.
"Tub, we gotta get Lock and Barrel!" Tub turns around and trots back to the Hideout.
"Eat him!"
"You eat him!"
"No you!"
"You!"
Shock came home to over-turned chairs, exploded bottles, scorched wood and spilled Worm's Wort.
"WHAT IN THE NAME OF GHOUL-"
Completely forgetting earlier, Lock answers.
"Oh hi Shock! We have a new friend!" Barrel smiles, half a centipede hanging out of a gap in his grin.
"You. Two." Shock's blood was boiling. This isn't ever a good thing. Her manifesting power tends to magnify when she's angry.
"Two of a Kind,
Born of Slime.
Give them Bind,
make them have to mime."
Simple, stupid, but it works. The two boys are now bound together and mute.
"Now listen. I don't know why I keep letting you in on stuff, but you're my brothers, so I think I have to. There's a new tree."
Lock and Barrel smile at eachother and giggles silently.
"I'm going to take you there, but you have to be good."
They nod, both with fingers crossed behind their backs.
"You rats, I know you've got your fingers crossed. But I'll take you anyway."
She gathers some things, a cross-bow, axe, pitch fork. Some worm's wort that had been salvaged.
"Let's go Tub!"
When they arrived at The Clearing, Barrel jumped out. Shock's week magic doesn't last long.
"Which door do we wanna go through?"
"The one without a picture."
"Nah, I wanna go through this one."
"No, we're going through this one here."
"How then?"
"I don't know. Um." Shock thought hard of a spell to make a door.
"I bet I can blast a hole in the tree."
"NO! Barrel! Tackle him!"
"Ok! No! Gerroff!"
Shock thinks some more. Maybe Lock, if I use a spell...
"Lock? Barrel? Here's what we're going to do." She tells them the plan and they get into position.
"Ready?"
"Ready."
"Ready."
"Show me the way,
the light of day.
Give this tree
an entry!"
Lock places his hand on the tree, slowly heating it. Barrel then bashes the soft bark with his fibula.
"WE DID IT??!!? WE DID IT!!!"
They dance for a second, before realizing the small hole they made is starting to get smaller.
"Go! IN!"
They enter the hole....
