On the way to get my dog out of the kennel, I spied another one of those "Support Our Troops" bumper stickers. This obviously was not the first time, but I think I'm ready to make my official statement on them:
I'm hard pressed to think of anything that attempts to say so much and in fact says so little. Who isn't supporting the troops? Is there really anybody out there going "You know, this Iraq thing isn't really Bush's fault. If it weren't for those damn troops, we wouldn't be in this mess to begin with!"
It's just a random stupid thing to proclaim. I would liken it to making a bumper sticker with the same American flag style ribbon that says "Don't eat babies." Anybody with Photoshop skills that can make something like this happen, I would gladly put it on my car.
In short, I don't want our troops to die. And if by some chance your idea of "supporting the troops" is by proclaiming the absolute necessity of an American unilateral invasion spearheaded by a commander-in-chief who believes he assumed the post with the help of God Himself....well, I'm going to support the troops by not insulting their intelligence.
