I have returned from Anthrocon.
It was an epic adventure of Epicness.
So, Thursday we drive down. Normally, things go smoothly- except this time, they decide to top us at the border. Turns out, we had to get a Broker to release our Artwork for sale.
Say What?
Basically, Obama was in Pittsburg, and the Americans were border=patrolling like CRAZY... they had Dogs sniffing, and trucks and the whole lot! And the good ol’ American border patrol decides that- for the first time ever- our art needs to be released in order to get into the country.
The buaety of it all?
They confiscated our passports and keys.
The dude at the border literally said "You’ll need a broker to release your art into the country. Otherwise we’ll have to turn you back… oh, and the brokers don’t usually do this for single people or on a one time only basis." So in a nutshell, they left us with NO choice, but didn’t actually SAY this... so welcome to America! Your first experienced; being bullied over nothing.
Well, thank god that both
walkswithtigers and I were silently wanting to stick it to the stupid border patrol, and we managed to find a sweet lady that helped release our good. 2 hour and $40 later, we were allowed to pass.
We got to the event a little later on, but as soon as I was there, Ishaway, holly, Mrs Red and Srgt Redfield were there to greet us!
I honestly had a SENSATIONAL TIME.
Between making new friends, doing gift art, hanging with wonderful people, giving my lectures [that were WELL received], and having an Artist’s Ally table- I can’t honestly say what the best part was.
Only one minor mistake on my behalf- on Sat I didn’t get an Artist’s Ally table because they had informed us that calling was at 10 am.. and it was at 9 am. While some people figured out this was a mistake- I did not. So I missed my chance on Sat… but the good part was that I had a day to hang with friends, catch up with
synnabar, and
malytwotails, draw some gift art, and just relax at the con. The parade was FANTASTIC this year, and I was happy like a child in Disneyland!
Also a cool tidbit of info… some of the local restaurants were not only accommodating the furries, but deliberately changing their signs to include “fur” in them, as well as giving discounts to folks who wore tails and ears to dinner!
All in all, awesome con. I love doing it- planning to go back again next year.
Now, I have to spend the rest of the week in cleaning and unpacking action! Gotta do lots before I have to go!
