WEREWOLF SKETCH!- Beasts of Yore project

Hello everyone!

Continuing with our projects for the "Beasts of Yore" portfolio, we got second dibbs on another beastie to include. Yours truly got dibs on... dun dun dun WEREWOLF! WOHOO!
Here’s the rough sketch for Werewolf.
Look it the pretty puppy, and then read the info under.

The info to be included with the image:
While most track the origins of the Werewolf creature to either the Greek legend of King Lycoas, or Peter Stubbe of the German Village of Colongne and Bedburg [16th century], there is more historical [myth] evidence toward the ever-feuding countries of Romania and Hungary.
During the ever-long feud between these two countries- prime rally over Transylvania, the economic prospered country boarding between the two countries- the ethnic identity of the two countries became consolidated, and serious loathing toward the other erupted in the endless medieval battles to concur and dominate the other. This hate stemmed a lot of stereotype and myths including; Vlad Tepes [Vlad Tse-pesh] as the original “Vampire/Dracula”, and the wolves dwelling in the Carpathian mountains (also on the boarder between Romania and Hungary at the time) as the origin of the “Wolf Men”.
Many Romanians- despising the Hungarians- would blame them of savagery, witchcraft, and of course- becoming like animals. A common place urban myth that was told to frighten children (and some adults as well) was that those wolves were so savage, they were really the Hungarians in disguise.
It is also to note, that the Dacians- the predecessors/forefathers to the local regions of Eastern Hungary all the way into Moldavia- were known as “the wolf men”. Their emblems and their coat of arms a Wolf headed Serpent like creature. In Romania, soldiers are called “loupators” form the Latin base “Loup” which means “Wolf”.

So my approach was to dig back into some medieval Hungarian designs and settings, and set up this bad boy to look like one of those scriptures illustrations. The designs are going to be applied to the border (which I’m opting to have to keep a consistency in the ‘folio) as well as on the décor/ornation of the werewolf.
My only deliberation is- should I go with a setting BG that includes the Dacians Flag? Or should I add some little sketches/studies of the facial profile and other small anatomy tid-bits to background of the image?

I also am NOT opting for the “Psuedo Native American wolf that walks on two feet” because there is NOTHING in Native culture that agrees with the concept of a werewolf, and I think if we are talking about the merge of human and animal, it has to LOOK that way. Hence I drew him out with the medieval long curly hair and pointy beard that was a fashion standard of the aristocrats in that local era and environment... and an adorably grotesque face of adorable drooly smoochies!
I still think he’s sexy and would want to marry him. XD
