Anime North 2009 was the win. I did great in the crafts corner, and even found me a couple of gems as souvenirs.
Anime North 2009 Recap
As always, this year seemed to have outdone previous years in the escalation that is AN. While it's common that many complain about the cons, and focus on the negative points, I have to admit I'm the opposite- totally digging my teeth into the yummy yummy aspects of Conning that is AN.
Friday
I almost didn’t come in on Friday. I woke up SICK like a DOG. The nausea was killing me and I felt as if I was slowly DYING. This, thanks to a lot of "slipping" on my diet. And by "diet" I mean food restrictions due to my incapacity to digest a slew of foods. The night before at the social (the Native Canadian Center's weekly drum and dance) I ate a really REALY awesome sloppy-joe... that contained EVERYTHING I wasn't allowed to eat. White Flour, Cheese [milk], and beef. I was paying for it.
However, as I bucked through it, and got to AN and suddenly the illness left me. The hype, the cosplay, the ENERGY... I was "cured". Registrations [pre-regged here!] when SWIMINGLY. In fact, I was in, got my badge, and setting up my table in under 15 minutes.
Sadly, I couldn't bring ALL my stock on Friday due to the fact I had to also do the Nominoichi [flea market], so half my bags were just re-sell stuff.
They also re-designed how the Artist's Ally and Crafts Corner were set up! And in fact, I LOVED it! Registration was in a different hall, so the ENTIRE hall that used to contain the Registration AND Ally was just Ally and Craft Corner. Defiantly APPROVED of that!
Good thing is that I did quite a few sales on Fri, and the Nominoichi went over great.
tarboo helped me carry stuff over to the Renascence hotel... THANK YOU SPPPUUDDD!!!
That night I got home, got to work on some stuff for the day after, and when to bed ubber late.
Saturday
This is the golden day. The day that I get to intake the ENTIRE con in it's entirety. It was a long day- however unlike previous years they did cut the day short by a couple of hours. My table was so busy and selling like crazy, that I could never get a picture of it with ALL the stuffs I had done- as I was setting up people were buying the things I was pulling out- so following is just a few images of my table in various times and set-ups.
Thanks to Adri for this one! This was mid-day on day 2… lots of stuff sold already!
My sister’s glass Etching was a hit- the little tea-lights would cast a shadow of the character etched into the glass. I wasn’t allowed to bring the tea-lights because it’s a fire hazard, but the natural spot-lights were helping to cast the shadows as example.
Also some of my sister’s totes she made.
I’ll be posting "focus images" on the boxes and my special product- the miniature fox masks- on my crafts account over the next few days… so stay tuned! I’ll be posting them here too. I want to put nice display images for those. XD
End of Sat I packed up early and went to the dealers room. Some of the yummie things I found:
1) An AMAZING cheesy Roy Mustang poster of him smiling and winking with the ubber cheesy “sparkle” o his teeth. I was trying got find a pick on-line of this but can’t. Will photo later.
2) 3 Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle posters:
All Dressed Up .. Fai’s face and Kurogane’s were just SPOT on!
Fai in Water. This one was so emotional.. it almost looks as if he is thinking of his brother… so much pain and emotion for Fai. I cannot think how that character can feel… maybe it’s because I’m a twin as well, so it cuts a little deeper.
VERY lovely color montage. Rower Serious!Kurogane is serious. XD
3) And the "king" of my collection,
This shitajiki of xxxHolic!! I was in a big war with myself if I should buy it or not... but then I flipped it over only to be FLOORED at the SEXY SEXY Watanuki/Doumeki image with Doumeki in a 3 piece suit, and Watanuki in a white Vest.
Little known fact: Bernice finds Vests UBBER SEXY!!! Especially a clean white one. I was sold.
Sunday
Whoagh the looming sadness of the last day. I wish AN would last a week. It would be the reason many would cast away their week vacations with the family just to spend it at a con. I know I WOULD! XD
It was a slower day, but I met more people I knew! Kyle from the NCC, and DQ! It was a great day overall, and nicely wrapped up the weekend.
Special props:
Meeting MANY new people; Judy and Mark! Thanks for the commission Mark! And thanks to you nightmare-eating cat! He does good work!
Finding the awesome poster/Pencil board.
Selling out all my stuff!
AMAZING COSPLAY! I only have like, a FRACTION of the amazing cosplay since I was stuck at my table- only a few actually passed by to say hello, but there were a plenty eye-popping outfits!
Ahead are some of the ones I took:
America and England. Complete with Hamburger prop and Tea cup. Can you say WIN?
Who you gonna call? THESE GUYS! Bloody awesome is all I have to say.
Adri and her Nephew, Kyle- these two were bloody SPOT ON. Kyle is a cutie- he’s very sweet and very mannered!
For my sister. THE COUNT! I knew she’d love him. XD
Best. Naraku. EVER.
Props to this lady who put SO MUCH thought in her outfit- everything form the mask sculpting to the fur trim were spot on to the anime. So many people just slap a flat-mak onto fur and thinks "it’s done"... not she! You can SEE the effort in this one! I was in love. And she let me try the headpiece on!!!
YUUUKKOOOO!!!!! It’s a fuzzy pic I know... but NO ONE ever cosplays her... and I was like YAY FOR YUUKKOOOO!!!
Awesome work, awesome outfit.
So that just about sums up the weekend. I’ll be posting my crafts items in my craft gallery at deviant, and posting them here too. So there will be plenty a-posting in the days to come!
Also, I have a few projects that need my attention this week- but I will be FINALLY re-opening my commissions! I’m sure as soon as I post the fox-masks on-line, I’ll be getting a lot of orders. I’ll be opening an Etsy site too! So that I can just put some of my crafts up there for immediate sale.
Stay tuned folks, and have a good one!
