I have just been waiting for about 4 hours for a process to finish on a computer in the GIS lab so that I could continue to work on my own computer. I just walk back there, and ArcMap is closed. Isn't that wonderful? Someone decided that it needed to be closed. :(

I was trying to resolve this stupid dissolve issue I'm having with the buffers for the Choctawhatchee project. I'm able to create a multiple ring buffer but I cannot dissolve it because of memory limitiations. So I thought, well, maybe a merge would work. I could just select all of the records with 50 as the distance value and then merge them and so on with 100 and 150ft. After four hours, it hadn't worked, or at least, I have to assume it never worked because someone shut down the program. Fine.

I also tried all of the solutions that ESRI recommends for this problem by clearing my temp directory, compacting and compressing the geodatabase, and defraging my hard drive. I also increased my page file size. Still, "memory limitations". Dammit, I do not have memory limitations. I have enough to do this stupid operation so just let me you stupid, stupid program!!!

Tried working on the RCW project by inventorying all of the data we have on the RCWs, but I can already tell it's going to be really annoying. Without some decent metadata, that is. Which I do not have, of course. I think I have a sufficient amount of data to put it all together into one point shapefile, but none of the shapefiles have similar fields and some stuff I have is just in table form or incomplete, so I guess I'll just work with what I have. I need to also go to Caroline's public folder to see if there's any additional data that I need for the project.

The sturgeon house is officially over as of today, so I may finally get the chance to discuss some projects with Frank. I don't know if it will be this week though - depends on whether or not I'm heading back to Ellijay, I suppose. We have tomorrow off for Veteran's Day. It's really annoying to have a weekend, and then a Monday and then a holiday.

I overheard someone saying that we have a new SCA starting next Monday. Hello? Anyone think to tell me so that I can rearrange the front office? Of course not. I guess that will be something else I'll do later this week, if I'm here. Anyway, apparently they're going to be a fisheries intern and it's a girl.

I emailed Donna about work there and she said she mailed me the new parcel info on Friday so I should get it sometime this week. However, I still have no way to access the server until they set up some sort of remote account for me. Anyway, once they do at least I can start making some extra money again. I'm going to need it.

I suppose that's all for now. I'm ready to get out of here, but I still have an hour left. Maybe I can find a good ESRI podcast thingy to listen to.
