Yup they do. They are all sisters. It’s a bit of a long story as to why I have four. These are my first ones. I’ve only had hamsters and gerbils before now. I got 2 males from a local pet store and bought a huge cage with tubes and levels and rope things etc and then decided to get 2 more so went back and bought 2 from the same litter the next day as I didn’t realise that you could introduce other rats. At the time I had assumed that they were like gerbils in that if they hadn’t been born together then they would fight etc. Anyway, after only a day of having them they started sneezing. I tried changing the wood shavings to a type of cat litter that can be used for rats, rabbits etc to see if it helped but it didn’t. Then the next day my favourite one started bleeding from his unary department…this as you can imagine really stressed me out. I booked them in at the vet who said it would cost £30 for a consultation and then extra for their medication depending on what was wrong but said that he might have to be put down. I was really upset and annoyed at paying over £100 for a cage (more for they toys, bedding, litter, etc), £24 for the rats and then this huge vet bill. So I phoned the pet shop who agreed to check them out..anyway, they exchanged the rats for four of their sisters..I went back to the pet shop a few days later and they had put my ill rats back out on display again. I was so annoyed. So, that’s how I ended up with four. They all live together in their cage quite happily except for a few fights now and again but that’s usually over food, sleeping arrangements, or fuss.

Up to a couple of years ago I'd never kept rats either, I'd had loads of gerbils! My boyfriend wanted some rats so we got 2, only 1 of them stopped eating and became ill after only about a year which was very sad. When she died we bought 2 more to keep the one who was left company (we still have these 2). My favourite rat, who's in my icon, died a couple of months ago which I was gutted about but she'd had a good life.

We decided to buy 2 more so that if one of the other two died the remaining rat wouldn't be on her own. So now we have 4 and it's like feeding time at the zoo when we open the cage to put food in!!

Lol. I know what you mean about feeding time at the zoo..when I get the rat food out the hamster shoots out of her house thinking its her food and the cats come running because they think its their food. Lol. I have to feed the cats in the same room as the rats or the dog will eat it.

yeah, I think that was one of the reasons I wanted four to begin with. So if one died then I wouldnt have a lonely rat. When I had gerbils I got a friend to look after them but she managed to loose one..the other gerbil stopped eating for a while and had to have injections at the vet. its so horrible to see things like that.
