As opposed to having a major panic attack every other day... So this? is good. Turkey Day quite possibly has a lot to do with it.
This Thanksgiving, I thankfully took it very easy and had an awesomely uneventful and drama-free week! WOO HOO!
I’ve yammered on about this some in other posts, but my mental state has not been in the best shape for the past few months. I think though (*knock wood*) I may have finally gotten my head screwed back on straight. I took this Thanksgiving vacation (furlough as they call it where I work) to have a genuine VACATION and do plenty of nothin’. I had the opportunity to do a lot more and see a lot more people. I had invites from both my friend Holly and cousin
feliciakw , but I opted out of traveling. I still deeply appreciate the invites though you guys *sniff! HUGS! Feels very loved!*.
What I did instead was chill and draw bad FanArt on Wednesday which I’ll post in a bit (I don’t know why, but drawing is very soothing to me-even though I’m not very good at it… getting better though!) And slept a lot.
Turkey Day- I went to the ‘rents house and my aunt showed up as well. We did it pretty low-key. Not even a whole Turkey, just one of those Butterball Breasts (Dang but they’re good though) and I made stuffing girlyghoul style- which isn’t much more than a box of StoveTop- but I make it with two cups of broth instead of water, add chopped celery and onions along with parsley and rosemary. Trust me, it GOOD! Then watched a weird conglomeration of Godfather and Mary Poppins. I couldn’t make up my mind and so was flipping back and forth between the magical nanny sending her charges off on Carousel Horses and then horse heads winding up in some poor schmuck’s bed for refusing that offer he “couldn’t refuse” Needless to say my brain was pretty fried by the end of the day.
Had dinner with friend Margaret who was all by her lonesome this holiday. Hubby is currently serving tour of duty #2 in Iraq (Salutes Hubby!) and she also opted out of crazy making travel this year. Again, we played it low key. Frozen dinners and pie! (Gotta have pie!) and watched “Get Him to the Greek” on DirectTV. I won’t spoil it too much here except to say… LARS ULRICH! Oh my stars!! The 15 year old Metallica fan in me is still giggling over that one. The much older Metallica fan in me is just glad he lost some of his ego along with his hair and can now poke fun at himself. And that’s all I’ll say about that so as not to spoil the movie to anyone who hasn’t seen it yet.
Friday- More Fan Art doodling and more SLEEP! I think I was needing sleep more than anything because that’s something I’ve been sorely deprived of these past few weeks (months if I really let myself do the math) I know I did something else, but it’s escaping me at the moment.
Saturday- I could not make it up to see
feliciakw , but lo and behold her ‘rents came down this way! Haven’t seen them for a couple of years. Her dad and my dad are twins, which didn’t used to be much of an issue as her dad always had a beard and my dad didn’t for most of his life. But now that they both have beards and glasses I swear I had to do a double take as to who was my dad and who was my uncle standing on the newly built patio deck (I should take piccies of it now that it’s built up again after I posted
so many piccies of its destruction this summer) But it was good to catch up and hear tales (tails?) of their multitude of kitties.
After that, went for lunch and margaritas with Carol at the Mexican place. Well, I swore up and down I wasn’t going to do the margarita part of lunch, but Carol told me some news that had me flagging down the waiter to bring some tequila to our table post haste! I won’t repeat it all here as it’s really her business, but I’m just thankful the drama’s staying on her side of town.
And Sunday, more drawing more sleep. And whatever I did, I must have done something right because I’m actually mostly functioning at work today.
Last week before furlough, the cadets who EVERY! FREAKIN’! YEAR! Put off their research projects to the last minute left a pile o’ stuff I still have yet to sort through and put away. But I’m feeling deeply Zen about it all. So yeah, must have done something right this vacay! YAY! (And whew!)
