Fogbound from 5 by Peter Mark May

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The last train from Platform 5 leaves Waterloo Station and heads off into the fog. For several passengers the journey and the fog hide the horrors awaiting them:

The Quiet Coach by Alison Littlewood
Littlewood's story is a portrait of the loss, dislocation and isolation that terminal illness can cause, which the surrounding fog typifies and reflects back at the characters on the train.

Fal Vale Station by Neil Williams
This story reveals the truth behind one man's dreams of a foggy train ride and the childhood tragedy that haunts him.

Last Train Home by Mark West
A man wakes up to fin his train stopped in the middle of nowhere and the fog surrounding hides a bloodthirsty horror.

Kriegsmaterial by Adrian Chamberlin
The foggy train rides sparks reminiscences of another fogbound ride from the concentration camps of WWII. Chamberlin skilfully combines real horrors with mythology in the tale I found most disturbing in this collection.

End of the Line by Peter Mark May
Waking up drunk at the end of the line turns out to be a really bad idea for Gary, as he finds himself in a village deserted by everyone but the strange creatures lurching out of the green tinged fog.

An excellent little collection with a strong theme and well written stories.
