What I've been up to for, err, the last several months...

I seem to have completely failed to blog for ages, so here's a quick round up of stuff I've been doing....

July saw us out and about every weekend being social and therefore being too tired during the weeks to do much else.

We went to Chesterfield for a Terror Scribes meeting, which is a group of horror writers (we know through the British Fantasy Society) that get together to ches the fat, read stories, drink and eat curries. It was a great day adn good to catch up with people.

Jay did a reading of one of his stories:

Did a flying visit to the Birmingham Zine Fair, which had a good variety of comic and zine creators in a central venue. Only downside was the lack of air conditioning on a very hot day, so I did keep having to leave the venue to avoid fainting. Picked up some fab items, most of which I haven't had time to read yet! We also combined this with a trip Nostalgia & Comics, who we had left comics with a couple of years back & to our delight found they had sold nearly all our stock, netting us a good payment & money for our next trip.

Which was to stay with Terry Wiley for a long weekend in Newcastle. We managed to meet up with lots of old and new friends while up there, as well as visiting Tynemouth Castle & Priory, South Shields (incliuding the Roman Fort) adn the city centre. This was the first time we'd taken Loki away with us to friends & he was pretty well behaved and fooled people into
thinking he was cute instead of the mischevious norse god he embodies.

We sampled the delights of classic, out of the packet Mac&Cheese with illegal e-numbers, thanks to Cindi for sending Terry back from the US with some.

Then of course it was all speed ahead getting everything ready for Caption & running Caption. I'll try to do a seperate blog on that!

After all this gadding about August mainly saw us crash at home and in dire need of doing cleaning, tidying, gardening, DIY and resting. Along the way we also threw goodbye and welcome home BBQs for one of our writing group, as he went on the highly regarded 6 week Clarion writing course in San Diego.

Hopefully things are starting to settle down again now, with another month of planning to be at home doing more tidying, organising and hopefully, some creative stuff.

August was finished off with a trip for me & Loki on the canals with my parents. It was an enjoyable, though slightly colder than expected, weekend. I was pleased to manage to help with quite a few of the locks and sit taking in the scenery. The trip included going through parts of Birmingham & under spaghetti junction, which is not picturesque but is interesting. We were on part of the canals which isn't used very much and actually saw no other boats for the whole of Sunday! Downside of this is that with less traffic the rubbish tends to build up and we had to stop about five times for Dad to clear weeds, plastic bags, jumpers, and on one memorable occasion, a mattress (!) from around the propeller.
