Birthday Weekend

I've had a lovely birthday weekend (stretching from Friday to Sunday. Friday I had the day off and started with a big pile of pressies from Jay. Then over to Melton to see my Mum & pick up family pressies. Selection of pressies in photo (click through for notes), plus some money for new clothes (as we have a family wedding coming up), trousers, hand mixer and an Amazon voucher (which I'm saving for leaner times when I need cheering up again).

Back home and some cleaning and cooking of Rocky Road & Carrot Cake (made easier by the new hand mixer from my sister). Then out for a Thai Meal & a fab charity comedy gig from Greg Davies, Lloyd Langford, Rhod Gilbert, Jon Richardson and Dan Clark. They raised £20k for the stroke association and we all had a good laugh.

Saturday was Pride & Prejudice day, where six lovely ladies joined me to watch the BBC 1995, Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle verion (while Jay hid in the Library cataloguing books). Much food was consumed (including aforementioned rocky road, carrot cake, plus cream teas, chocolate cake, posh biccies etc I forgot to take any photos this year). Two years of costume drama, cake and tea start a tradition I think, so I'm planning on birthday celebrations along these lines again in the future.

The only slight panics were when the kettle broke (and we had to get out the old, leaky one) and my P&P DVD started playing up during the final episode leading to much stopping and starting and exclaiming, but we got to see Lizzie and Darcy getting together so that was the main thing.

Saturday night Jay & I watched the Luc Besson Adele Blanc Sec film (managed to find version online with subtitles, but really hope it gets a proper UK release). It's fabulously mad film.

Sunday saw Sunday lunch out with the parents, a migraine in the afternoon (too much cake? is that possible?) and a Paul Foot comedy gig to round the weekend off. He is quite odd, but very funny and there was one girl who obviously failed to understand his levels of homophobia routine (see link), as she felt compelled to ask if he was homosexual, when he very obviously is!
