THIS IS NOW OFFICIALLY CNC-VERSE CARRIE.
Body and Appearance
1. Describe the character's height and build. Is she heavyset, thin, short, rangy?
16-year-old Carrie is built like a gymnast, so it stands to reason that younger Carrie is built like an emerging gymnast. Small (5' even), slender, no boobs at all, just starting to get hips but Catgirl's Dat Ass is still just a distant dream, and while she's been training enough to start to get some muscles, she'll never really make it to "beefy". Or anything past "boyishly skinny", really.
2. How old is she?
13 in canon, newly 14 from where I took her, and 15 in CnC as of February 2nd or something.
3. Describe her posture. Does she carry herself well or does she slouch?
Her posture is temporary. She's decently still when she's not moving, but with the sense that she could be darting somewhere new at any second. So she always looks a little poised, even when she's in her usual casual slump.
That is, of course, until she's talking to Batman (or someone held in the same regard). Then it's At Attention all the way.
4. How is her health? Is she fit or out of shape? Any illnesses or conditions? Any physical disabilities?
She's in great shape, thanks to the relatively recent obsession with training. She trains with Miho every night, and has various assorted sessions set up with other fighters outside of that. It means no ounce of fat, just those boyish skinny limbs and barely-there-but-sort-of-emerging muscle.
5. How does she move? Is she clumsy, graceful, tense, fluid?
Like a bird, really. Still when she's still, tight and precise when she's moving. There's a fluidity to her motions, but the focus is definitely on precision. And of course she would greatly prefer to flip her way to something rather than just walk to it, so there's always that.
6. How attractive is this character physically? How does she perceive herself in the mirror?
She's not unattractive, but not traditionally pretty. Very androgynous, unless you're looking close. She has almost no self-image though, and tends not to care at all about how she's perceived. She doesn't try to be pretty, and especially not to be feminine.
7. Describe her complexion. Dark, light, clear, scarred?
Pale and clear (typical redheaded complexion, sans the freckles), but she's starting to add a few nicks and scars. Her run-in with Joker left a few barely-noticeable scars on her legs, but whatever weird Medi-gel thing it was Jason found for her took care of most of it.
8. Describe her hair: color, texture, style.
She's a ginger more than a redhead; hair is coppery, on the thin side, and styled by not being styled at all. It's swept to the side by default, and she doesn't put much more thought than that into it. Not that she appreciates it getting messed up. That will be quickly fixed.
9. What color are her eyes?
Blue, always alert.
10. Does the character have any other noteworthy features?
THEM OVERSIZED GREEN SHADE-THINGS. This is an absolutely cunning disguise. And when she's in her civvies, normal-sized glasses that just happen to be tinted green. There is no correlation there, you're crazy.
11. What are her chief tension centers?
Legs. Really, you can read tension pretty clearly in her whole frame, but it's always the legs that are coiled and ready to spring first.
12. What is the character's wardrobe like? Casual, dressy, utilitarian? Bright colors, pastels, neutrals? Is it varied, or does she have six of the same suit?
When she's not in the Robin suit, which doesn't change much, it's usually just a sweatshirt and jeans. More androgyny. She prefers hoodies, and especially white/light gray. But whatever's comfortable and easy to move in, really. She's intensely uncomfortable when it comes to dressing up (unless it's for the sake of a disguise), and especially in dresses and other girly clothes.
13. Do her clothes fit well? Does she seem comfortable in them?
The Robin suit is her whole identity, so really, she seems out of place in anything else. When she's Robin she looks like she was born in the outfit (though it's starting to get a little tight as she grows), but if she's in anything other than baggy and casual she looks a little ill at ease.
14. Does she dress the same on the job as she does in her free time? If not, what are the differences?
Since I've rambled enough about the Robin differences, I'll put disguises here instead. The difference between going undercover and going in civvies is huge. She can definitely act, and do it well. She'll even look at home in a long slinky dress (with a padded bra) if she has to. But that's the act, and if she ever tried to apply it to herself, she'd fail miserably.
15. You knew it was coming: Boxers, briefs or commando?
The plainest white underwear there has ever been. Why would she put thought into something so useless??
Speech
1. What does this character's voice sound like? High-pitched, deep, hoarse?
High-pitched enough to be potentially mistaken for a boy yet to go through puberty. It's deepened a fraction since she showed up in the City, but it's still pretty high.
2. How does she normally speak? Loud, soft, fast, evenly? Does she talk easily, or does she hesitate?
Her voice always comes out even and measured, usually a little monotone when she's not using emphasis. Casually confident. She doesn't speak too quickly, unless she's stressed out and in rambling-slang-mode. She's easy to follow, if you can decode the future slang.
3. Does the character have a distinct accent or dialect? Any individual quirks of pronunciation? Any, like, you know, verbal tics?
"I figure" is the biggest verbal tic. "Gee", "mostly", and "spud" also deserve honorable mentions. She's toning down on the future slang, but those ones will always stick around. And as far as accent goes, there might be a slight New Jersey undertone.
4. What language/s does she speak, and with how much fluency?
She's only fluent in English, but thanks to some advice from Tim she's working on French, Russian, Arabic, Chinese, and Japanese. So far she's really only started on the French, but she's picking it up fast. (Trips to France with Impulse and Supergirl are helping that.)
5. Does she switch languages or dialects in certain situations?
For a disguise, she'd do a decent imitation of any dialect or accent she needs to. She's not anywhere near Batman-good at that yet, though.
6. Is she a good impromptu speaker, or does she have to think about her words?
She's good at spinning out her quick, lightly-worded little quips. But then when it comes to saying something that actually means something, it takes loads of thought and a few false starts. She's not too good at expressing herself.
7. Is she eloquent or inarticulate? Under what circumstances might this change?
She speaks well, confidently... as long as she knows what she's saying. Teasing comes easy, explanations and directions are fine, simple sentences are a breeze. But the moment conversation turns to emotions (or anything impacting, really), she's halting and unsure. It also changes under duress, suddenly all slang and harsh stops and starts.
Mental and Emotional
1. How intelligent is this character? Is she book-smart or street-smart?
She's a good combination of both. Back home, Batman didn't use her much for fighting. Proving a distraction or a lure was about all she was allowed to do-- she had to be the Smart/Quick-Thinking Robin to make up for the lack of combat skills. So while she's not exactly at genius-level of anything, she possesses a decent amount of book-smart, and is quick enough to know where to get answers when she doesn't have them. She's better at street-smart, because of her time with Batman and in the City.
2. Does she think on her feet, or does she need time to deliberate?
She definitely thinks on her feet. Decisions are usually made almost instantly, and she can change plans just as fast as she needs to. Time to deliberate will usually only turn out the same answer she'd come to in a few seconds.
3. Describe the character's thought process. Is she more logical, or more intuitive? Idealistic or practical?
When it comes to people, she's very intuitive. She's good at reading people (all the better to use/manipulate them -- with good intentions!), and she's almost always idealistic and optimistic. She'd much rather think of someone as good than wicked. She's seen wicked, and it looks like the Joker. If you're not the Joker, then there's hope for you yet. (Which isn't to say she trusts people-- she only hopes they'll be good.)
She's more logical and practical in other aspects of work, though. Setting up a bomb and laying down a plan, for example, doesn't leave much room for intuition or idealism. She knows when to turn that sort of people-handing thing off and get down to the business of being Batmanly.
4. What kind of education has the character had?
She was in her freshman year when she dropped out of school entirely to become Robin, but she's since started going to school again in the City.
5. What are her areas of expertise? What, if anything, is she interested in learning more about?
Chemistry is interesting, if only because she likes to know the compounds of explosives. Biology is cool. She used to like English, but it just strikes her as a little useless now. For the most part, she's incredibly interested in anything she can apply to being Robin.
6. Is she an introvert or an extrovert?
In the sense that she gets energy from being around other people, she's an extrovert. She really really likes people-- being with them, befriending them, learning about them, using whatever talents they may have to offer... But in the sense that she's open, she's an introvert. She would much rather sit back and observe people than talk about herself or volunteer information.
7. Describe the character's temperament. Is she even-tempered or does she have mood swings? Cheerful or melancholy? Laid-back or driven?
Carrie's very even-tempered, and it takes a lot to make her angry. Insulting Batman is just about the only way to make her mad, and even that isn't a sure-fire way, if she's more interested in learning about the person doing the insulting. She's likely to just ignore insults aimed at her, because it wastes energy to be angry or upset. In fact, the only people that can really negatively impact her are the ones she respects and looks up to-- Batman, Jason, both Terrys.
But aside from that, she's almost eternally cheerful, with a secret fierce determination under that. If she wants something, she's not likely to stop until she gets it.
8. How does she respond to new people or situations? Is she suspicious, relaxed, timid, enthusiastic?
She's almost always at a relaxed sort of enthusiasm, with an undercurrent of wariness. She's always on-guard against danger, but she doesn't show it unless she's directly threatened. Otherwise, life is an adventure and she intends to enjoy it. Casually.
9. Is she more likely to act, or to react?
React. While she's all about pursuing her goals and getting what she wants, almost everything she does plays off of other people. She doesn't mind making a first move, but only to get a reaction to play off of.
10. Which is her default: fight or flight?
Flight. Only recently is she starting to clamp down on that strong instinct to dodge, evade, and get distance. Her growing combat skills are to thank for that, but her first impulse will always be to escape.
11. Describe the character's sense of humor. Does she appreciate jokes? Puns? Gallows humor? Bathroom humor? Pranks?
She's a huge fan of pranks, but best of all is poking subtle fun at people and smirking when they're not sure if they've been insulted or not. It's nothing malicious, but definitely mischievous.
12. Does the character have any diagnosable mental disorders? If yes, how does she deal with them?
Dependency issues, if anything. She enables them.
13. What moments in this character's life have defined her as a person?
-When Batman saved her/when she decided to be Robin
-When the Joker's henchman nearly killed her/when she saw him die
-When Batman "killed himself" and she successfully upheld her roll in the plan.
And as far as in the City goes...
-When Jason saved her
-When she began to work with (bat)Terry
-When (spider)Terry turned into Batman as her greatest fear, rather than the Joker like she expected
-When Jason was ported out
14. What does she fear?
She fears the usual things. Injury, death, failure. But she doesn't usually let it affect her. And for a while there she was terrified that Batman hated her and would fire her, which trumped even her fear of Joker.
15. What are her hopes or aspirations?
Originally she just wanted to be Robin, but lately it's occurred to her that, back home, Batman won't last forever. And someone has to take his place. Why not her? So it's become her goal to be Batman one day, and it's more serious than joking. But mostly she just wants to be as skilled as he is. His rules and mode of operation are starting to seem a little outdated -- Jason's are much more to her liking.
16. What is something she doesn't want anyone to find out about her?
She never wants anyone to know about her failures, ever. That was what initially sparked her devotion to Jason, because he saw her biggest screw-up in the City, and the results of it, and not only kept her secret, but helped her afterward. Her entire self-worth is built on her own competence, so failing is feeling worthless.
And aside from that, she'd really rather prefer that those supremely heroic types not learn that she's taken up killing.
Relationships
1. Describe this character's relationship with her parents.
Non-existent. As huge stoners/drug users, it was almost a hobby for them to play at being loving and devoted parents -- as long as they remembered they had a kid. Eventually they would basically forget and wander off again, leaving Carrie pretty much on her own. She came to regard the moments of affection as transparent and irritating, because they were obviously just a passing fancy. When she disappeared to go be Robin, they barely noticed. She's never looked back.
2. Does the character have any siblings? What is/was their relationship like?
none.
3. Are there other blood relatives to whom she is close? Are there ones she can't stand?
none.
4. Are there other, unrelated people whom she considers part of her family? What are her relationships with them?
Canon-Batman is her surrogate father. She still adores and trusts him in the City, but the bond is far less intense than it was at home. It's not just her and Batman, with Batman relying on her completely as his Robin, anymore. Now it's her, Batman, the rest of the Batfamily, loads of other people allegedly from their world that she doesn't know, and all of the City. She doesn't feel needed by him anymore, like she did at home.
Jason was beginning to take the place of Batman in her affections before he was ported out, though with a big brotherly feel rather than fatherly. (Bat)Terry makes the big brotherly list too, but not to the same extent.
5. Who is/was the character's best friend? How did they meet?
This would probably be (Spider)Terry. They met when she made a post about wanting to be Batman, an as soon as she learned he was the Scarecrow's protégé she decided to keep an eye on him. This involved a crime-fighting run to get a better feel for his powers, where she inadvertently got him shot. The guilt over that started her thinking of him as more than just a potentially dangerous maybe-enemy, and they've only gotten closer and closer from there.
6. Does she have other close friends?
Kara, (bat)Terry, Tim, Abby, Gar, Miho? There don't seem to be any particularly close friends in canon, and especially not after she became Robin.
7. Does she make friends easily, or does she have trouble getting along with people?
She's friendly toward people easily and immediately, but it takes a lot for her to actually consider them a friend. But still, she's entirely capable of getting along, even (especially?) with people of a not-so-friendly nature. Or, at least, she likes them.
8. Which does she consider more important: family or friends?
As far as family-by-blood is concerned, they're at the bottom of her list. But her pseudo-family ranks incredibly high on her list, far outpacing most friends she's made.
9. Is the character single, married, divorced, widowed? Has she been married more than once?
Single, with zero interest in marriage. The domestic lifestyle isn't just unappealing, it's simply not an option for someone like her.
10. Is she currently in a romantic relationship with someone other than a spouse?
No.
11. Who was her first crush? Who is her latest?
She's never had one before. (Spider)Terry might be inching toward her first, but it's undetermined as of right now. :|a
12. What does she look for in a romantic partner?
She doesn't. But IF she did, it would be someone useful, strong, independent, and probably Batman-like. She'd kill herself if she got someone clingy and needy. Or them.
13. Does the character have children? Grandchildren? If yes, how does she relate to them? If no, does she want any?
She has even less interest in children than she does in being married. That's, quite simply, For Other People.
14. Does she have any rivals or enemies?
She would consider all of Gotham's rogues to be her enemies, but she hasn't made any personal ones so far. Though Bucky might qualify as her rival in snark.
15. What is the character's sexual orientation? Where does she fall on the
Kinsey scale?
1. She's a little bit sexist when it comes to women, and especially girls her age. Being in the City has made her see that there are some impressive ones out there (Selina being the biggest influence), but that only makes them available as people to look up to. She has no attraction to them.
16. How does she feel about sex? How important is it to her?
Utterly inconsequential and no big deal. Everyone has it, right? Well, everyone except for her. It's another one of those things For Other People. She has no interest, and no embarrassment in it as a topic as applied to other people. As applied to herself, it's just something she doesn't think about.
17. What are her turn-ons? Turn-offs? Weird bedroom habits?
:|
Beliefs
1. Do you know your character's astrological (
zodiac of
choice) sign? How well does she fit type?
Aquarius, according to me. That makes her slightly mysterious, unwilling to talk about herself, vague and a little cryptic, and rational. Being born in 2017 makes her a Rooster, which... sort of fits. Meticulous and perfectionist, not so much, but she's self-assured and decisive.
2. Is this character religious, spiritual, both, or neither? How important are these elements in her life?
Neither, because ~ALL YOU NEED IS BATMAN~. They don't matter to her, and she's never given them much thought.
3. Does this character have a personal code of morals or ethics? If so, how did that begin? What would it take to compromise it?
She adopted Batman's before she'd given much thought to having one of her own. When Jason began to rise in importance, she began to think that maybe his wasn't too horrible. After all, if Batman had just killed the Joker all those years ago, he wouldn't have been able to kill all those people when he got out again. But that wasn't quite enough to rewrite her borrowed code of ethics -- until Jason ported out. Suddenly it sounds like a much better idea, and she's starting to act on it. So apparently that's what it takes to compromise it. But she's firm on "only absolutely horrible people deserve to die", and there's nothing at present that would change her mind on that point.
4. How does she regard beliefs that differ from hers? Is she tolerant, intolerant, curious, indifferent?
Considering that Jason has already made her morally gray, the only way to get worse than that is to be an outright wanton murderer. In which case she'll be pleased to take up the vigilante schtick against you. She currently views the "boy scout" type as a little naïve and ridiculous, but she wouldn't work very hard to try and change someone's opinion of it. And as far as anything less than outright wanton murderers go, she's immediately curious and wants to know more and why.
5. What prejudices does she hold? Are they irrational or does she have a good reason for them?
She used to be prejudiced against the Super family, because Superman is an enemy back home, but Tim changed her mind about Kon, and then she befriended Kara. So that's mostly out the window. Now she only really dislikes Joker and the other rogues, and that's just because they're generally awful people.
Catman's not so bad, though.
Daily Life
1. What is the character's financial situation? Is she rich, poor, comfortable, in debt?
Back home, she had the Wayne fortune backing her. In the City she was poor-to-comfortable, living on the money provided from the dogtags. Now that she's adopted Jason's method of getting money though, she pretty much has just as much as she needs. She's also not above stealing whatever else she needs from the recently incarcerated (or incapacitated), so money is even less an issue.
2. What is her social status? Has this changed over time, and if so, how has the change affected her?
At school she was just one of those quiet, unassuming kids that doesn't really have much of a clique. Kind of a nerd, pretty good at sports and gymnastics, nothing very impressive. Now she's "vigilante", which I imagine is a social status all of its own.
3. Where does she live? House, apartment, trailer? Is her home her castle or just a place to crash? What condition is it in? Does she share it with others?
In canon she lives in the deepest recesses of the Batcave nowadays, which is just as comfortable as it sounds. In the City she lives in the Titans Tower, and her room is pretty sparse and Spartan. Habits die hard.
4. Besides the basic necessities, what does she spend her money on?
Disguises, marshmallows for blowing up in Terry's microwave, cool new gadgets, trips to foreign places, snacks for movie night. It's basically either stuff that contributes to being Robin, or little for-fun things.
5. What does she do for a living? Is she good at it? Does she enjoy it, or would she rather be doing something else?
She's Robin, which is exactly what she wants to be.
6. What are her interests or hobbies? How does she spend her free time?
She used to basically devote all her time to being a better Robin, but Tim has made her think that maybe she ought to give being a normal kid a shot? She's not entirely sold on the idea, but she's trying. And since befriending Terry it seems a little more appealing to just sit around and watch movies/eat snacks, but she still considers patrol the best use of an evening.
7. What are her eating habits? Does she skip meals, eat out, drink alcohol, avoid certain foods?
She avoids alcohol and drugs at all costs, thanks to her parents. Other than that, she eats when she has to for sustenance. And since that ties in with being an effective Robin, she's got a pretty good schedule going for it.
