Just do as I say, and everything will work out fine.

At work (as a claims adjuster) on the phone with this lady from a hospital regarding an appeal on her patients' claims.

I said, "When you fax in the claim forms, you just need to reference case number 1933691 on the cover sheet."

Lady said, "Oh, I'll just put it to your attention."

"Actually, in order to have the fax attached to the case, you need to put the case number."

"No, that's okay, I'll just put your name on it so it goes right to you."

"Ma'am, please, you MUST put the case number on the cover sheet of your fax otherwise this fax will not be attached to this case in our system and will disappear in to the ether."

"Oh, so it won't come to your mailbox or anything."

"No, ma'am, we are a national company with multi-state locations.  We do not have one central facility with one master fax machine."

"Well, how do I make sure you'll get it?"

"You can make sure I get it by putting... the case number... on the cover sheet... of the fax."

"Oh, okay, I'll do that then."

What makes this so difficult is that I am not allowed to tell clients that the faxes go to India where out-sourced workers scan them all day long and attach them electronically to cases in the system.  Otherwise I would've just said, "It's important you put the case number on the goddamn fax cover sheet or Jagadish Satti in Bangalore will not know what the hell to do with it."

Seriously, people, I wouldn't fucking tell you to do something some way unless THAT WAS THE WAY YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO DO IT STOP WASTING MY TIME OMG YOU'RE STABBING AWAY BITS OF MY LIFE AND SOUL THAT I WILL NEVER GET BACK.
