I'm going to surprise you and write the review without you having to remind me about it over and over again. And the fact that it's my birthday gift is only one of the reasons for that ;)

I love how easily these two worlds blend together: it's not simply Lucifer's guest appearance in Angelverse or Illyria's in Sandmanverse. They exist in the same world, something that is important in crossovers (and it reminds me how one of my favourite things about Sandman is how easily it can be written into practically any story I can think of). I'm actually a bit surprised how well Illyria works as a Sandman character. On some level it was obvious that she would, but seeing it is still quite bizarre: she fits perfectly into the series and its notions of gods, their nature, time and all that jazz. The whole LA thing, with Wolfram and Hart and others - figures that both Lucifer and Illyria find it not exactly worthy of serious attention, treat it more like a show that a long time ago used to be interesting, but they saw it too many times already (what comes to mind is the Hell Triumvirate from A Hope in Hell and the things Lucifer says about his time as the ruler of Hell in Season of Mists: how the little demons crave power and cherish it when they get it, but in the long run none of this matters).

And then there is another element of Sandman, the one around which the whole plot was built around: change. Illyria is conscious of change, and so is Lucifer. And they both cope with it. Illyria here somewhat reminds me about Morpheus and the state he was in at the end of Preludes and Nocturnes, with the lack of purpose and having to face the fact that she's not the same anymore. And I repeat: it works so. well.

Thank you so much, it's gorgeous ♥
